Lug Nut Question

I picked up some TRD pro rims for my 02 tacoma. I stopped by the tire shop and they told me I need new lugs for them. They said they need to be flat washer with a smooth barrel. Any idea where I could get these? I've looked around and i haven't found much of anything.

Those work for the kind of rim I mentioned?

 

you can always go to an auto parts store and buy one set and check if they fit. i did that to make sure i was getting the right item.

He must have different rims than the ones shown in his avatar. The factory alloys use nuts like the ones I posted. At least I think they do. I sold mine and I'm pretty sure the lug nuts had washers.

the stock rims i had yes they were steel and the ones i got from a 2012 are alloy

 

Ah. Steels rims use the acorn style. Alloy rims use the flat washer type with a chamfered tip so they also work with the steel spare. OP's rims look like alloys.

 

The flat washer type is called mag style. These are what Toyota uses on all stock alloy wheels.

 

Yes I have the rims in my avatar. But I was told I wouldn't be able to use them with the new rims because where the lug touches the rim is flat, not tapered like like my current ones. I think the ones I have now are the acorn style like what was posted earlier.

 

Hmmm. Your rims are alloy, so I'm fairly sure your lug nuts are the mag style, like @nzbrock mentioned. I had the same rims on my '04 and they had the mag style.

Have you actually looked at them or are you taking the wheel guy's word for it? To be sure, you could go pop one off. Just trying to save you a trip to the auto parts store for something you may not need.

 

You can pick em up at Pep Boys or really any Advance auto parts stores or similar. I have the same wheels and picked em up cheapest same day at Pep Boys.

 

If you have acorn lugs on your stock wheels you have probably ruined the wheels. You most likely have mag style.

My question is what lugs will fit in these new rims. Will my current ones fit? If not, what kind do I get that will fit?

 

Looks like the short shank Mag style should work

Put the wheel on see if the lug bottoms out before it gets tight on the wheel

 

Should work just fine.
