Are 4x4s pretty rare?

I feel like I see way more 2wd than 4wd.... 2wd is lots cheaper and most average folks never need 4wd anyway where I'm from...

Interesting to see all the differences. I had always assumed all the trucks i was seeing were 4x4. I didnt realize the only visual difference is the prerunner marker on the tailgate until I got mine. Unless i am missing something.

You can also tell by the mudflaps. Prerunner mudflaps are blank and 4x4s are labeled as such.

Unless you are like me, my tires ate them about 220,000 miles ago.

Go to the more wealthy neighborhoods and you'll see more 4x4's - of course if you're lookin for first gens they may not be there anymore lol. If you're looking to buy a used one keep looking - a clean bone stock 99 extra cab 4x4 five speed with 170k just went for $6500 on offer up in my area.

I just look to see if there's a cross member under where the transfer case is located. You can't miss that. Some people like to put TRD or 4x4 decals on their 2wd trucks for some reason. Up here in FarNorCal, it's almost all 4x4's. Except for older people who love their 5 lugs or pre runner Toyotas. The first "mod" I did to my truck was take the 4x4 mud flaps off.

Haha, fair enough. I suppose my method isn't fool-proof.
