After 20 years of climbing in and out of the bed of my truck I've managed to flatten the tailgate cover such that it pushes the handle out. I'm no good at pounding out dents. Has anybody come up with something that prevents the problem from occurring?

If you want the cover to be showroom quality, buy a new one...

But pounding out the dent isn’t rocket science. Hell, I could do it. Just get a rubber mallet, and put the cover in the dirt and start pounding.

Using a rubber mallet means you can be a little “less precise” with your hits, and it won’t end up looking like cottage cheese.

This is basically once a month maintenance for me. Take it off, beat it with a rubber mallet, reinstall.

5 mins. And as good as new.

Or you can get the tailgate reinforcement plate by Relentless Fabrication.
