hey guys, I'm fairly new to Tacoma world, just became a member like a week ago but am not new to tacomas. I have a 2006 v6 4wd trd offroad (modded up the ying yang) and love it. my goal in life is to open a shop one day and pursue my dream of running a mechanic/fabrication shop for cars and offroad vehicles up in Colorado (currently in new mexico). I'm attending a community college now for business and I hate it. I want to go to a technical school to have something to show for what I know when it comes to automotive knowledge and know how but is it worth it? ive searched all over the internet and find it hard to see many positive reviews about any technical automotive schools ie.. UTI, Wyotech, Lincoln tech. I love trucks, I love working on them, and I love offroading and want nothing more then to combine that into a job but do I have to go to a technical school? I want something to fall back on if my own shop doesn't work out which is why I don't want to just go straight into working at a dealership or an independent mechanic shop. please help me :(.

If you want your business to succeed then pay attention to the business side of your schooling and keep your records updated and organized. I think schools can organize a curriculum to fit more diversity into a shorter period than you might otherwise get as an apprentice. Either way there will be things not covered so learning how to learn is probably more important than just absorbing what is covered, that's true in any line of work, so tackle new problems as opportunities. Work at your weaknesses as well as your strengths and if you want to gain that 5 star reputation then stand behind whatever you do.
