I ended up getting a Modesta ceramic coating about a month ago so far I love it I don’t wash my truck every week anymore I wash it every 2 weeks because now the coating keeps it cleaner and the water beads right off the truck even looks clean when it’s dirty. Does anyone else have a ceramic coating on their trucks?E5368C1B-5C30-45D8-99B1-F62A2548B0EC.jpgF7556CFA-8F18-48CD-AABE-E510CD946C9E.jpg

I see it baking on in your pics. I'm assuming they spray on a layer of ceramic-based clear coat and bake it like Cerakote?

Yup, applied Gyeon's coating about 8 months ago. Usually top it off with one of their follow up products atleast once every other month. Will be researching some more and may go with OptiCoat applied by an installer next time around.

and you are correct! Water beads off easier and makes the drying process quicker. Although I have noticed it is a bit more finicky when it comes to water spots in my case.

^^I agree. Especially if you're still topping it off w/ another product every few months. Hate to be a negative nancy, but I don't see the value in these coatings...never have.

No but if I ever get to a point in life where money is flowing out my ass I might.

My husband wants a black Audi A7 and when we are ever in a point where that car is an option I’d probably consider the ceramic coatings.

But they are horrifically exspensive and don’t last but 3-5 years.

I’m an avid detailer so I feel I could maintain most cars very very well with much cheaper products.

I just refuse to try to maintain a black vehicle lol.

I would not put such a coating on a truck. You can get super slick finishes that make washing a breeze with a $40 bottle of Jet Seal.

    Its not.
Ceramic coatings are the bees knees. Some of the upper end ones basically allow you to do touchless car washes with a foam cannon and a pressure washer.

They just cost a shit ton of money because they require professional install.

They also require handwashing for the life of the coating (if you want to maintain it the best way possible). Most people can’t be trusted with that lol.

Agreed - they use these coatings in aerospace applications etc too. There are different quality levels between some of them along with hardness levels, but when done right, especially on a black vehicle, upkeep can be a lot easier.

I have a very specific regimen for caring for my paint. I rarely wash it - like almost never. I drive a LOT of dirty, dusty, muddy roads. I put on a lot of miles in the winter when they are spraying mag chloride. And I drive trails that are over grown with trees and bushes on occasion. I started this very careful preservative regimen after buying it new in 2012 with 20 miles on the clock. :D

When will nano-tech become big in the automotive paint industry? I keep seeing these YouTube videos of people who put nano-protective stuff on their hood and throw a bucket of mud on it and it literally just slides right off. How is this not a thing yet?

Nano just means the product bonds at a microscopic level, which all sealers and coatings do. So thd technology you are talking about has existed for quite a while.

In fact I still laugh a bit when people say they wax their cars. Wax is very labor intensive to apply as you MUST clay bar the vehicle before you do it to avoid paint damage and it only lasts 4-6 weeks.
Sealers require the same prep as wax but last 6-12 MONTHS. Coatings usually last 1-5 years.

Wax is outdated. The only time I hear of detailers using wax now is for depth effect on matte or black colored vehicles. Sealers have a glass like look and its overwhelming on darks cars. So its for looks not protection. Sealers do a much better job at paint protection.

Waxing is a waste of time IMO.
Plus most people have no idea what a clay bar is or how to use it so thet usually marr the shit out of their paint applying it.
