I used to have a 2000 Tacoma Prerunner that I traded in on a 2010 DCSB 4x4. After nearly 135,000 miles in my 2nd Gen, I still couldn't shake the feeling of how much I missed my 1st Gen.

One thing lead to another and my aunt called me about my grandfather's truck he had before he passed. I had asked about buying it several years before, but she wasn't interested at the time. Fast forward a few years and the truck has been wrecked and parked. I took a look at it and $500 later it was mine. The sentimental value of having my PawPaw's truck that I learned to drive in, is priceless.

She's a 2001 Regular Cab 4cyl with 145k miles. The front has been damaged from rear ending an FJ cruiser of all things. I have a new core support, hood, grill, lights, and other miscellaneous parts on the way right now. The frame is perfect according to the shop I had inspect it.

On to what everyone cares about, PICS!

Ahh man, I would've taken the damage as a chance to swap over to the 95-97 front end, but that's just me. Regular cab is the best cab!

That'll buff out no problem. :)

Your pawpaw is like me. My son can have my truck when I'm well, you know... Until then, he can get his own (he's only 8 right now...)

But in all seriousness, I'm sorry for your loss, but it looks like your grandfathers truck will be in good hands.

That’s a deal for 500$. I’m not sure if your planning on doing the core support swap yourself but I learned from trying to do mine there welded in on mulitiple spots. Ended up just stripping the front end down to just the core support and took it to a body shop. Good luck though! You stole her at 500!

Grats on getting it back. Parts for body and drive train should not be any problem if / when you restore it. Interior parts on the other hand I found a bit harder to source and the prices are a bit high for what I have found.

Thanks everyone! I started a build thread where I'm going to try and keep all of my progress pics and future mods. I picked up a camper shell for it over the weekend, and I got the core support and hood.

Im going to try and do all of the work myself with the help of my fiance's father. Everything should get going this Friday since I'm off work.

My aunt got the truck and she didn't take care of it. She wrecked it and then left it sitting. I've been trying to buy it for years but after she wrecked it, she was finally willing to let it go. :annoyed: But I'm just glad to have it.

Haha I still have the 2nd gen! She rolled over 200k on the drive to NC this weekend. Only 145k on the 1st gen! Thinking about selling the 2nd gen when this is finished. But I agree, I couldn't have gotten a better deal.

I've got a front 2001+ clip - inner fenders, core support, grille, headlights, hood, fenders. Your profile does not say where you are located. I am in Lancaster, PA

You hit the nail on the head. It's sad it's such a common situation.

I'm in Cloudland, GA. I'd definitely be interested in some of that if you'd be willing to ship and wanted to split it up.

Awesome build by the way! I was looking through it this morning to get ideas.

No, I think shipping body parts is probably not a good idea.

Thanks! It's a good little truck.
