2 way or 3 way door speakers?

Hey y'all im about to upgrade my tunes here soon, right now i have a pioneer double din with 2, 3 way 6x9 in the front and 2 way 6.5 in the rear. "both pioneer" and 2 kicker comp r10 in the back. im upgrading the front doors to the JBL GX962 2 ways and the rear to JBL GX602 2 ways and also replacing the stock tweets with a JBL 750T should i use a 3 way or 2 way speaker?

subd... on the same boat here, about to pull the trigger on kickers but idk if a 3 way would be better

I think that the 2 ways plus a good quality tweeter would sound great because with a 3 way the other tweeter on there is so small you can barely notice it

 

I went with Components up front and Coaxial in the back. Put the Tweeters in the black triangles that cover the inside mirror screws. Sounds amazing.

 

I wanted to do the tweeter mod behind the side mirror but I wasn't sure how to mount the tweeter up there. On the 4runner's the tweeter isn't mounted on the back of the quarter plastic, its mounted on the frame of the door.

 

I just used a hole saw a little smaller than the tweeter, and used super glue to make it stay. Taped off around the tweeter and used flat black spray paint to make it all blend in. Soundstage is really sweet

 

I'm jumping in to follow as well. I'm wanting to swap out all the stock speakers but don't wanna break the bank... yet.

 

im probably going to roll with the 2 ways where im replacing the tweeter with a much better quality one, and the 3 way additional tweeter is so small the results wouldnt be that noticable....oh and im replacing my pioneer double din with a touchscreen!

I went with CDT audio components for the front soundstage of my 4runner. 6" in the door, 3" in the dash and a 1" accent tweeter mounted to the top right/left of the windshield. I used the 2 way speakers for the rear doors and back hatch.

This is what happens when you don't research anything and rely on a couple replies in a forum. All of your information and recommendations are answered throughout the wonderful world of the internet. You are making a lot of major mistakes and by now have purchased your speakers but are experiencing a subpar audio upgrade. 3-way speakers are better reproducing clarity than 2-way speakers BECAUSE of the small tweeter. Tweeters need to be small so they can move faster to accurately project high frequencies. Some of the tweeters out there are bigger than 1" and while they definitely work, they're never going to sniff being the best producers of high frequency audio. Typically, a mid-range woofer kicks in around 1.5"-2" in speaker diameter, so your "tweeter" in the 2-way is likely closer to that size (generally .75" to 1.25" depending on the brand). With a three way, you get better separation and crossovers and thus your speakers always operate in their optimal range instead of covering a wide gamut of frequencies that kills detail and overwhelms your ears. That being said, a 3-way speaker in the front or a 2-way speaker in the front is still incorrect. I know, all of that just to say you'd be wrong on both counts. You WANT/NEED components up front to accurately setup your soundstage. Putting tweeters in the low door is how you have a bad audio experience. The second a passenger steps in and sits next to you your high range disappears because legs block the frequencies and high frequencies quickly get diffused by softer materials that have any density to them. Components split up the speakers and keep them individually configured, allowing you to properly place your tweeters in your dash, upper door, frame coverings, or whatever else so that you can always properly hear them and have a balanced audio experience. 2-ways in the rear are OK because ppl in the back seat can still hear your dash tweeters well enough. The thing to remember is that now you have 4 tweeters and it can be pretty harsh if you buy lesser quality speakers because of all the mid-highs that get pushed and that can be a tough range for your ears to handle for any length of time. I did 2-ways in my front door years ago - didn't like it at all. Even with better audio imagining offered via software that can help a LITTLE, you still will never get the best experience, especially when you have other people in your car. It's also notable that components will 100% of the time give you better bass response and project lower frequencies better than 2-way or 3-way coaxial speakers because your largest woofer cone is bigger. Because coax speakers mount tweeters up the middle of a woofer cone, which means there's a hole in your woofer, you will never get the best experience. Yes, they usually try to maybe seal that hole a bit and let the tweeter flex with the woofer but the low frequencies get broken up a bit by the pillar that the tweeter mounts to. Hope this helps for next time. Unless you have no other options, go component. And even if you have no other options, go component lol. You can always "surface mount" tweeters like I did in my 2016 Kia Soul. I just got a hole saw bit and drilled a 1" hole in the upper door area. It worked pretty well and all I had to do was feed my 1" mounting hardware through with the tweeter already in it and it had a screw thread-style clamp. I just screwed the backend in once I fed the tweeter through and the threading allowed me to pinch the door panel material and hold the tweeter there without any glue. Those were JBL GTO component speakers so maybe spy their 6.5" component speakers and look at the hardware to see what I'm talking about but you have a lot of options. Or save a few bucks and have a professional do it.

 

I went components front and rear. A buddy of mine has those JBL speakers and they sound like absolute trash.
