How do you step out of your driver seat?

I'm curious how folks here w. a lift step out of your trucks.

Allow me to explain. My truck now is stock height.

I'm 5',11" and before I had my N-fab style nerf bar steps, I'd just put my left leg out and reach for the ground and slide out of my driver seat w/o looking where I step. This is made difficult if I want to step out with my backpack as I'd like to hold on something to help me step out, but there is no handle and the steering wheel isn't exactly suited for this. But over-all, was never a problem.

After I got my N-fab like step bars, 1. when I do step on the step, I still need to hold something to step out, and without that, it's near impossible to shift weight from the seat of my pants to my left foot on step, so that i could take my right leg out of the cab and to the floor in a smooth motion without holding something. I hold top of the wheel. I have slim frame, 160lbs. But 2. when I don't get to step on my step (it's not always smooth and easy w/o looking at it), I have to reach to step on the ground, which now is a farther as the step is in the way, so I have to slide out a bit uncomfortably. Twice a week day, morning and evening, this is ok.

But on occasions where I have to step in and out a few times a day, it' has become quite annoying,
This problem is going to get worse when I get my lift on.

    What is your experience?

Edit: Does the 2nd gen have a driver-side A-pillar handle, and if yes, could we swap ours w. one? Will it fit?
    Edit2: Spelling, grammar

Drivers side is kind of setup for a handle but you would have to fabricate a handle somehow. If you look at the picture one of the metal brackets has threads and one doesn’t so you would need to install a pem nut in the lower one. Probably not an easy modification to pull off.

Sadly yeah. Especially with critical air bags in that place. I don't get why Toyota gave a handle for the passenger side, and not for the driver side. It's things like these that infuriates me.

I had the Toyota Predator steps which are similar to the N-fab steps. I always placed my left forearm on the painted truck body near the seat belt for balance when stepping out. I felt the N-fab step was a little too far forward which made it harder to use stepping down.

This is pretty funny, just slide out and hop in? I dont get why anyone needs steps for a tacoma unless your on like 35s with 6" lift.

I have totally changed the way I enter and exit vehicles since owning my Taco. Three pedeling with boots is almost impossible.

I just "scooch" toward the outside of the seat, by placing left foot on my OEM boards.. then I move my butt outward and I've now got room to place foot down without rubbing on the boards...!!

    Works fer me..!!

I think some work with an Occupational Therapist might be in order here. They can probably help you out with some adaptations.

Also, maybe one of those emergency fire escape rope ladders could help. Hook it on to the passenger seat and climb down.

Not a problem. I will explain. Sigh!
I was trying to save this embarrassment, :frusty:
When I was a teenager, I was 17 I think, I once had to go to emergency one night clutching my balls because it was hurting like bloody murder.
At the time I thought I fapped too much, and my friends mom who drove me even said were you playing with it on the way to the ER. :boom:
I walked into the ER on all fours, and the doctor who examined me told me (and of-course it has to be a woman doctor if the situation wasn't embarrasingly worse enough) that I have to go into surgery. :annoyed:
I was like, "WTF? why would you want to do surgery on my balls??!! NO fucking way!!! Let me out of here."
As it turns out, I had a situation what the doctors called 'torsion testicles , and it that it could happen to anyone, especially if you're a runner, into athletics etc. (But why me??)
So they did surgery on my balls .
Ever since that, if I jump down from a wall, or jump from anything high, like from a table top or a chair, it hurts a lot :(. Like getting kicked in your balls.
    Thankfully everything still works. :anonymous:
Hence, jumping out of the truck after if get a lift is something that worries me.

I have nerf bars and I’d pull them off right now if it wasn’t for my two young kids and wife. I agree, they complicate exiting the truck.

I’m going sliders eventually so at least the nuisance is justifiable.
