    Somewhere in the Mojave Desert...
    Vehicle:
    2017 Tacoma OR 4x4 (formerly a 1998 SR5 PU, 2002 OR 4x4, 1995 4x4 4Runner, 1985 4x4 Toy PU) ... and RIP’s (rust in pieces) to a Bronco II 4x4 & S10 Blazer 4x4
so I was trying CC on a steep, rocky road while locked in 4wd low and encountered the “pulsating” or more like “bucking bronco” effect along with the “Godzilla trying to rip out the engine” sounds with it in several settings, including low (1). As I was trying to straddle ruts and drive over/around boulders, I didn’t want the truck to bounce into or onto the wrong place so I turned off CC.

I played with it again on a flat dirt road and got the same results (see video):

Ok, so is this what it does normally? My wife was scared by the look of her expression, I was worried the truck would break, and my daughter was laughing the whole time when I turned it on that first time. Just wondering what it normally does? Thanks!

Very normal. Don't be scared by the noises.

Does yours do the bouncing effect, too? It felt as if it had a very unbalanced load on spin cycle.

slow...sure...as you go to the increased speed it smooths outs. Think about what its trying to do. Find traction at all costs and stay at a constant speed, or crawl

Mine does sometimes. The vehicle is trying to go slower than idle speed.

Hwy Joe- so does it work best for you going uphill or downhill? I don’t see using it on rough rock either way if it is going to bounce around like that. Thanks.

You say "Locked in 4 lo", So are you saying its in 4 lo or its in 4 lo with the locker activated? If the you had the locker on that could be part of it. CC individually brakes each wheel and I would never run it with the locker active. When I use CC in 4 lo I dont have much "bucking" but it is not smooth and makes all the expected noises from all the videos I've watched.

***Edit: I done been learned no locker iwith CC active and I watched the video to see that I was simply confused by words. Sometimes I'm slow...

I meant in 4 lo - the rear diff locker is not activated. My video does not show the bucking movement that much, when I was set on #1 it was doing it at the same rate as the noise.

Certain things will not activate or deactivate all together, with the locker engaged; Crawl Control being one.

Makes sense. I havent tested what will and will not work. I should have just watched the video and would have known he did not activate the locker.

That’s ok guys- sorry I used the wrong terms. I can’t easily film the bucking effect , maybe showing my daughter’s head bobbing froward and back each time you hear the noise? It seems like everyone warns eachother about how loud it is - but it’s startling! I should just go out to a Tacoma gathering and ride shotgun with someone who can show me how to use it correctly and how it normally works, too bad the sales people couldn’t show me it off road during the test drive - they said I could try it out in the lot and I said no, and asked how many other people tried to do just that with THIS truck?
