    98 tacoma 4x4 and 89 sport 4x4 pickups
    89 has 4th 22re motor 2.7l w 130k on both trucks.
My 98 2.7l 4x4 tacoma with 130k miles just stopped going in reverse. It starts to move then "chatters" in and out of moving until the gear shift locks and so does not want to drive backwards. If i put transfer case in neutral the tranny makes loud clacking noises. All 5 forward gears of the w59f work fine. At the same time reverse messed up i had broken the rear passenger side leaf spring. Shortly thereafter all my coolant leaked out of the engine somewhere near the bell housing. I was avoiding a collision by accelerating in reverse on dry pavement with all terrain ko2 tires. Any ideas? Can i fix the trans without pulling it? It just seems like something fell into it and is getting caught between the gears. I live in Anchorage alaska and spare parts are hard to get locally. Any help would be appreciated.
