Hey guys, just had my 5000 mile service done at AutoNation Toyota in Cerritos CA. I asked them if they could check for ECU and transmission updates. They told me I would need to leave the truck with them for a few hours to troubleshoot and find a reason to update because they "Don't just perform updates even if one is available."
Is this normal, or is this BS and I should find a different place to take my truck?

Tell them erratic shifting--that should do it. They need to have a reason to bill the time so give them one...

take a minute and read the TSBs, which list out the symptoms that are suppose to address. if you feel like your truck actually has these symptoms, then let the dealer know.

I had the same experience (different dealer) when I took my truck in a 5k miles. I even brought a printout of the TSB with me and showed it to the service advisor.

You gotta be having the symptoms that are listed in the TSB, at least 1 of them, or Maw Toyota will not pay the dealer....!!

Yes, they generally only perform those things only if the truck needs it.
