Not able to post in the classifieds section yet so I thought I would ask for some input from locals. Trying to find a 5vz-fe motor. Using craigslist, car-part.com and ebay but haven't found much I'd consider "worthy" or purchasing. Does anyone know of places in the Midwest (preferably Northern IL or southern WI) that would be a trustworthy place to purchase from? Or if anyone happens to know someone with a motor they want to sell. I'm guessing I'll just have to roll the dice on a motor, but I wanted to see if anyone had good experiences with any places in particular. Ideally I'm just looking for lowest mileage possible. Any help is appreciated.

I've seen a ton of those ads on craigslist but have heard mixed reviews on the "JDM" engines. Mileage claims are false, some of the motors are junk, etc. It's an idea though.

You may be right as I know nothing about them. I know one out of DFW advertises on the STL CL so it was just an idea.

Think I've seen that company too. I've found a couple through different scrap yards but mileage was a little high. Or I'm just being too picky. :p

Appreciate the help either way.

As far as mileage goes, keep in mind that you’re talking about an engine that’s been out of production for 13 years now. Finding one with “low” mileage is going to be difficult, especially depending on what you consider “low” mileage. You may be lucky to find anything at all with less that 100,000 miles on it.

"Low" to me would be anything with under 200,000. In a perfect world I'd be able to find a brand new motor for next to nothing. Our truck has 230,000 miles on it, but doesn't owe us a dime. To me, finding a salvage yard motor or one that someone is parting with is cheaper and less time consuming than rebuilding, buying a rebuilt one or just buying a newer truck.

Thankfully we aren't in a hurry to get this one back on the road so we can take our time finding an adequate motor. Even if it has 150k on it, in the end we'll still come out ahead of buying a new truck. Plus 1st Gen is best Gen. :p

One we have is stock. But hopefully if we find a suitable engine that'll change. Overdue for a suspension refresh so I'll have to get something cool :D
