Thanks James for the cross post on this. It’s pretty important IMO

Found two that will be replaced under recall.

I’m gonna start replacing all my stuff with refillable, all steel construction extinguishers.

Peeps will need a date code for the “Plastic Handle” models when you fill out the online submission form . Use the last 5 digits of the stamped multiple digit code in back part of cylinder. The date code field in the form allows only five digits.

The “Pushbutton” models do not need a date code.

FYI: The date code does not even resemble any common date convention. It’s just a series of five digits.

For 10 bucks more, you can get a 2.5 lb halon. No chrome.

Having an extinguisher that doesn't work means you just have a small cylinder to throw at the fire.

    Different effect really.

Actually, the 2.5 lb Halons (HalGuard/Halotron) below are a few bucks less and twice the capacity than the chrome 1.4 lb that you linked.

$132 H3R Performance HG250B Fire Extinguisher Color Black

$132 H3R Performance HG250R Fire Extinguisher Color Red

    $129 Amerex B385TS, 2.5lb Halotron I Class B C Fire Extinguisher Color Red

EDIT: I've been digging deeper into this: I guess we should distinguish Halon, which is EPA banned for production but can be recovered and recycled and re-used vs. Halotron, Halguard and other trademarked names, which are acceptable Halon substitutes that are currently produced and are less expensive. The links I provided above are fire extinguishers that are charged with these Halon substitutes.

This is correct... I gotta dig up that post and put a link for it some where... I didna write up on the different types of extinguishers. I wonder if I can upload a power point on here for people to read/ flip through so there’s a better understanding of them.
