2300+ miles (mostly highway) on this fucker ('17 RWD TRD) basically brand new. I have used the locker one or two times off-road to get my out of some nasty stuff. Never drove with it engaged for more than a few feet at a time. Hit the locker on accident getting my glasses out when I got home. Now the bitch just flashes when I try to turn it off. I have turned the truck off locked it and walked away... nope still locked. Tried creeping forward a bit... nope still flashing still locked. I have work in the morning but I guess I will be getting a tow to the dealership unless anyone has some suggestions?

Fucking pissed. Why my 02 4runner with 275,000+ miles never had a single issue. This mother fucker is starting right out the showroom. Maybe buying new was a mistake now I can join the long list of salty 3rd gen owners.

I think you just need to drive it a little bit and it'll disengage.

    I’d say a good 50-100ft to disengage.

Did you try slowly alternating between reverse neurtral and forward? My 2002 TRD would take a bit to unlock as well, had to go forward, neutral, and back again a couple times. I also tried shifting into 4lo, 4hi and 2wd too. Like yours, mine had 275k miles on it- that’s my avitar. I got the feeling my 2017 is the same- I tried rear lock once on trail and had to go forward and back just a bit to unlock. Hoonatic is probably right- go scare your neighbors tonight with some weird truck noises while you crab crawl down the street. :)

Okay okay it's all good false alarm. Used to the 4runner which obviously operated differenly. I have officially calmed my tits. Thanks for the help all.

Anyone know why the 02 4runner operates so much differently? Perhaps I'm just an idiot (strong possibility).

Try swerving back and forth at about 5mph. Sometimes the right to left motion helps to take pressure off one side of the axel.

You can't lock it while in 2wd.... it was never engaged. The flashing icon means it's trying to engage or disengage. And since you weren't in 4lo it was telling you you can't engage it...
