No hardship for me either. Hooked the Genny up for an hour or 2 each evening to get the freezers and fridge back down to temp, take a shower, etc. Ran on oil lamps the rest of the time. No big deal.

Lost mine for a measly 2 hours. I was lucky. Did get a chance to run new gen system.
I feel so bad for others..

I've lost power for a week at a stretch a bunch of times since we bought our current house 5 years ago and it's no hardship. I just got the generator to keep the freezers cold, because we've got a lot of food stored in them and it'd be crazy expensive to replace. I can definitely sympathize with those who have infants or are elderly, but the perfectly healthy adults my age not so much.
What happened to the Hearty New Englander? My FB feed has been flooded all week with a bunch of whineass posts about not having cable or internet access except on their phones. Light a few oil lamps, throw the fridge contents in a cooler with a block of ice, and read a damn book. Play some board games with the kids. Cook on a camp stove. UNPLUG!
The leftovers from Hurricane Philippe merged with a separate storm. Dumped a bunch of rain and tossed some 60MPH+ wind gusts at us on Sunday night. I think at one point roughly half of the houses in the state were in the dark.

Could have been worse; it's a lot harder on people during the heating season. The same sort of widespread outages in January would be a lot more problematic for people.

Still planning on making your trip North?

Seriously. People are a bunch of bitches. I can see it being difficult if you're elderly or if you have small children (like, under the age of 3). But everybody else? It's not THAT much of a hardship to not have power for a couple days during this time of year.

My neighbor lost his power along with the rest of us on a @5 mile length circuit. We were out for four+ days. He is still w/o power because when the trees took out his pole, they also ripped the transformer off the pole. When the transformer hit the ground, it broke open and spilled its contents in his driveway --which is the only viable access path to his home. Oil spills have to be reported to the DEP, so that transformer lay in his driveway for 5 days until the proper folks got there to remove it. Don't imagine he was thinking it was a minor hardship as he horsed multiple 5 gal containers of gas thru the tree-clogged woods to avoid the spill and downed power lines....

And he's probably not bitching on Facebook about his cable being out, either. He has a legitimately bad time with it, and I can sympathize with him. But everybody else on the circuit just had to deal with oil lamps and coolers for a couple of days. Which I do NOT consider to be much of a hardship. And if he's lugging 5 gallon containers of gas, it's because he has a generator that he's fueling, which means he had lights, heat, refrigeration, etc.

Yeah, that was me. You said to remind you around the 6th, so I marked it on my calendar

If you can pick me up a couple of cases, that'd be awesome, if you have the room for it.

Yeah, just the original lager. Cans, nothing fancy. NOT the light, though!

    That's the one!
I've been nursing along a case that I bought when I drove through PA this spring, but I'm down to just a couple of cans now. Gotta find a regular supplier here

Couldn't say what he does on Facebook, but ain't no cable here, and even it there was, he's got bigger fish to fry. He can't assess what damage has been done to the underground feed to the house until power is restored to the pole; it was not a graceful takedown. Plus, despite efforts to avoid the oil, it spread and got tracked into the house, made its way the 50-70 feet out into the roadway, etc. It's fairly rural here and power outages are somewhat routine. Many folks up here have generators so they can run their pumps, refrigerators/freezers, furnaces. Always convenient to be able to flush your toilet. Just sayin' :D. I feel for him. Two young kids. Works hard. Not wealthy. And gas ain't free.

Ugh, underground lines are the worst to diagnose. I feel for him too, as I said. He's got legitimate problems related to the storm. What town was this in?

Yeah, and I try to avoid going there
