Story: I recently picked up a pair of Eminence ALPHA-8MRA drivers for a bass guitar cabinet project I was attempting. Turns out they sound like crap for that application. I really don't think they were getting the right amount of power. Turns out that the speakers are actually non-refundable.

Question: They are 8ohm drivers. From what little info I could find, it seems the stock system was designed for speakers with a 4 ohm load. Will these speakers be an improvement over the basic system or do you think they'll sound like garbage? I'd hate to modify the door to fit them and then have it sound bad. HELP.

That's a closed-back driver with a super-high Fs. Methinks they will sound like garbage. It's a large midrange driver and will deliver little to no midbass...just LOUD midrange (100.9 dB sensitivity!!!).

As far as the 8 ohm vs 4 ohm thing goes, that's just fine. A lot of the time the 8 ohm driver will be more sensitive. That may make it a wash while the 8 ohm driver will demand less current. And the T/S parameters will likely be totally different. I'm personally using 8 ohm home midwoofer drivers in my truck (SEAS U16RCY/P) and they're the bee's knees. Just don't go below 4 ohms if that's the nominal impedance of the stock drivers.

Yeah, that exactly how it sounded when I tried it in the cabinet application. Basically, I'm an idiot and I should have compared it to other speakers before buying it. I was just excited about the 100+ sensitivity and high wattage.

Thank you very much for the info about your set up. I appreciate it.
