Thanks for all the feedback. And I am not the intruder haha. I've played the whole thing back 1000 times and while, in a movie, it would have been badass to stop the intruder with my gun I definitely made the right choice. The entire thing was over and done in about 15 seconds and I was caught so off guard that my running instincts just took over. Even if I'd had my gun on me I would have been about 10 seconds of reaction time behind him. This happened in a really nice neighborhood just south of downtown. The police said they rarely get calls in my area. The truck is a silver TRD sport, extended bed, dark tint in the back. I had a black Utah Utes sticker and a handprint (Jerry Garcia) on the back window. I'm really debating whether or not I need to move... luckily I have great insurance coverage on the vehicle

    Don’t know about you

    But I would move

I moved in with a girl in my youth In Seattle

3 months living there, my turbo charged sports car was broken into and attempted theft

I ran down and the thieves took off

I tried living there but I couldn’t sleep every night

The invasion of private space wasn’t something I could get over

    I dumped the girl
    And moved out

Anytime I install a new door unit or lock set, I throw away those wimpy little 1" screws they come with, and I replace them with 4" long screws that are long enough to go into the studs. You can also buy reinforced heavy duty striker plates for more strength.

Sounds like you need to reinforce your doors. 3in screws make a big difference.

A buddy of mine had his 05 powerstroke stolen at ina and Shannon a few years ago. He actually chased the dude but lost him in south tucson. The truck was found a week or so later parked in a random neighborhood. Light bar, Glock 19, some ammo, and the radio were gone and the seats were jacked up pretty bad. But he got the truck back and insurance replaced everything... I’d have to agree that your Truck is in Mexico but you never know. Good luck, glad you’re ok!

As a home defense advocate as well, I think that was the correct choice. Good to hear you're safe and material possessions are replaceable.

It’s a cartel truck now. Either a pack truck or a combat assault vehicle. Glad to hear you’re okay, had my house broken into when I was a kid dickface took all our Christmas presents too(I had an Xbox coming). Half of my hometown police are good friends with our family and we are related to like 4of the city court judges. Cops found the guy gave my dad the address my dad kicked in his door and beat the shit out of him. But I didn’t get my Xbox.

I lived in the PHX area for a few years. I had a supervisor that had his brand new truck stole from his house. The police/border patrol found it on the AZ Mexico border burnt to the ground.

    WOW!!!
Glad u are OK scary S##T
My house was broken it to twice, the second time alarm scared them away.
They can break down any door unless you get a steel frame one as stated earlier.
Had packages stolen several times so I put in a security cameras.

The steel door is the way to go, cops told me thieves know they have a few minutes even with an alarm so they crash the door run through the house grab stuff and run.
I live in a nice area but close to some " Da Hood " areas so break ins a common by me.

Bear traps and tiger pits, gentlemen, are the way to go. A few strategically placed traps and a well dug hole can be quite the show stopper to someone who doesnt know about them.

Glad it worked out ok for your dad, but nowadays the story would go - "Then the guy sued my dad and the cops, dad ended up in jail and the cops lost their jobs". Guy should have had his hands chopped off like in the middle east.

Had a crack head run up to me literally 3 days ago when I was out on my porch. But before he approached he saw my dog, which is a husky/german shepard mix, and when he saw her he spun around instantly in his tracks and ran off. Made me really glad to have her, knowing her look and bark can have such an effect.

I added a switch in the power to the fuel pump in one vehicle I was concerned about when I camped. Most thieves will move on when they won't run. Easy to do.
