who's running 5.29 on 35 (01-04 4x4) automatic v6

Trying to get some actual feedback from owners.

Yes, I tried the smart search option as well, no luck. And yes, I tried the simulated gear ratio to transmission prediction and it's not 100% accurate as well. Its just a guesstimater.


Looking for owners from 2001-2004 3.4L v6 4x4 automatic transmission that is running 5.29 ring and pinion with 35 inch tall tires.

-what is your rpm @ while cruising at 65 & 70. Yes, based on your tire rotation, your actual speed is probably ~5mph slower then what is shown on cluster. But I want to know your actual cluster reading.

The tooth count on the speedometer gear makes a difference too. Many of us that have regeared have also changed our speedo gear to make it read a little closer to reality.

A better, more consistent way to compare is to check actual speed with a gps unit or an app on your phone that can give a gps speed reading.

 

Are you 4cyl or 6cyl? I'm running the same ratio and 35's but I'm a manual tranny. In 5th at 65 I'm a little over 2800 rpm, at 70 I'm slightly over 2900 rpm. With an automatic your rpms should be lower with overdrive and lockup torque converter.

Also I have a dakota digital speedometer recalibrator. My speedometer is spot on.

 

I'm chasing the rpm. As for speed, even the app is assuming, which might not be far off from actual. I have live data in my mil scanner and reads directly from computer.

How do you know whether you are going 70 or not. Can't go by the speedo after regearing.

 

Very true. But cruising next to another car going 70 and your speed is reading 75 gives a pretty good prediction

 

I want to say after regearing and before installing the calibrator I was about 6 mph over what my actual speed was.

 

Your GPS is much more accurate is my point.

 

It varies, but speed calibration is probably the most accurate way of going about it.

I tried before with gps, speed app on smart phone and my garmin handheld gps. All 3 have different reading. They all were +/- 2/3mph from each other. But gives a good idea of your est speed. Close enough.

Follow the instructions in the link I posted, it will give you accurate numbers.

From what I’ve heard, most guys are happy with that setup on an automatic

 

65mph is about 2300rpm since the auto has a higher 0.705 overdrive ratio.
