We were on our honeymoon in Hawaii a few weeks ago and kept noticing the Tacomas with a flat dark earth paint job. Love the color (turns out is is called "Quicksand") so I looked more into them after we got back and they at least look like a nice truck.

Not new to trucks at all, never had a Toyota though. I have had my F-150 for 12 years (it is 15 years old) and it is getting on in years, 160k miles and is starting to get some rust. She has been a dang good truck, its been as reliable as a hammer and if I could get a new one just like it I would. Really don't care for how they have grown or the styling and "tech" of the newer F-150's though, I don't tractor pull anymore so I don't really tow a lot of heavy stuff often either.

Some people would insert "Tacoma" in place of F150. Some say 2004 was the last year of the smaller, tech-free rigs.

Right in that timeframe everything started going downhill IMO.

I don't wanna go that small though. Start-stop, 10 speed automatic, 17"+ wheels, touchscreen radio that controls everything from HVAC, to radio, to backup camera, small twin turbo V6's are being pushed HARD, beds are stupid deep requiring optional steps to get at anything in the bed, any color you want as long as it is gray, front clip is shaped like a bar of soap, big thick chrome grille, trailer backup assist....

vs a sporty looking truck a tad smaller than I have now with meaty 16" tires, 6 speed manual, many different available colors, the engine doesn't generally shut off on its own, real friggin knobs for the HVAC stuff, shallow bed...

It sounds good anyway, haven't been in one yet. Not quite ready financhally to update yet either. My brother works at a Ford dealer and I am supposed to get his discount so that could put a twist on things too if it knocks a F-150 down to the Tacoma's price.

For my little basic truck itch I have my '85 Ranger... that one is my baby and is not going anywhere.

I wanted a Toyota pick up since about 1985. I've had Ford, Chevy, and Dodge all full size because I needed a full size truck at the time. I got my first Tacoma going on 2 years ago and see no way I'm going back

My neighbor has '15 2.7 EcoBoost that they bought new a couple of years ago. About 40k on the clock. It puffs a bit of blue smoke out every time he starts it.

I doubt that is normal, my brother has a '14 and it is a beast of an engine. I would just rather have the V8 which hardly anyone stocks anymore.
