Need Quick Answer, Does Front Diff Drain Plug Have a Crush Washer?

You should replace it with a new one anyway. The front diff drain plug gasket (

$7 90430-24003 Front Differential Drain Plug Gasket

90430-24003) is about $2 from the dealer.

One more question, does the smooth side of the crush washer go towards the bolt head, or the diff? I never noticed them to be different on Dana axles.

 

Thats how I install them. Smooth side to bolt head.

The front diff drain plug uses a huge copper gasket, wouldn't think there's a direction. You're probably talking about the fill plug one (

12157-10010), which is used also on the rear axle drain and fill plugs. I've been told the flat side goes towards the bolt, the crush side towards the axle.

Dumb question..

I have a 2014 SR5 4x4. I used Lucas 80w90 non-synthetic. Am I good? My paperwork says I have a LSD, so I don’t know.

I am coming from a Rubicon with lockers, so this Tacoma stuff is new to me.

 

Recommend the gasket set linked from Amazon here. I used them and worked out fine.
Far as oil, I used SuperTech 75-90 from Walmart. I didn't go high end because I'll refill every 30k miles since dirty water is prevalent where I go wheeling. I'm not a Cali Instagram Overlander lol

I didn't use any. But I'm a manual, if that matters. I think autos are supposed to use the additive.

I'm not 100% sure, but my understanding is that the limited slip you have is electronic. The TRAC/A-TRAC detects wheel slip and applies the brakes. So you would not need additive. Earlier trucks had mechanical LSDs and those would need additive. I thought the split was around 2009.

 

Yea I did use the DIY thread, and it said after 2009, no additive needed. My rear diff also has no sticker saying LSD. I think it is the brake one.

 

We all have LSD best to my knowledge. If it said post 2009 doesn't need it, don't add it. Won't hurt if you do use it though.

 

I believe the only downside to using LSD oil when you don't need it is that it wears out faster. I don't think it would actually hurt anything in an axle like this, though.

 

You 100% do not need an LSD additive.

I thought LS additive was for Sport models only?
Even if you didn't need an LS additive, would it be okay to run it anyway because Mobil 1 is cheap and reliable....

I think additive is fine to use even if you don’t need it. But if you do need it, don’t not use it. Hope that’s not too many double negatives lol
