It's gonna be multiple calculations of volumes:

Volume of tire as if it were a cylinder, using the tread width/width at rim (hopefully the same) X tire area(including the rim "hole"

Subtract the volume of the tire "hole" which should be: "width at rim" X rim diameter

Add 2x the volume of the bulging tire area (let's call it section width volume) which requires all kinds of crazy math.

Subtract the volume of the air that is present in the concave part of the inner wheel from rim-to-rim. Also requires crazy math.

(I can imagine all of this ^^^ in my head. But not sure if I'm describing it reasonably well so that you can imagine the same thing in your head. #EnglishIsAThirdLanguageProblems.

    Anywhooooo....

Or you can do what a real scientist would do to measure volume of irregularly shaped objects.

Push the fatso into a pool and measure water displaced.

In the case of a tire, I would fill a mounted tire with water via the valve hole (remove valve) and measure the water.

@Braves95 owes me a patch, not you.

Try to come over Jerry. You can ride shotgun with me.

If you ride shotgun, I'll volunteer to lead a group for Blues/Blacks. I need a navigator and experienced dude with me.

If you're not shotgunning with me, I'll volunteer as a Tailgunner.

Why are you trying to calculate volume again?

I'm not. And after I wrote all that, I wouldn't want too.

@stairgod wanted to calculate it so he can sleep better at night knowing that his tires got enough air in the shortest amount of time. And he wanted to make sure he didn't lose ANY of that air into the atmosphere.

 I wouldn't want to either. Although I think the most efficient way is filling the tire with water as you mentioned. Wouldn't be hard either.

This is a great question. The compressabilty of air, internal surface area for psi, plus several more factors. What's the endgame?

I can't speak to other brands.

I have a 3" x 20 ft Keeper that is about 10 - 12 years old and was made in the good 'ole US of A. I think they are now being made overseas. I've used it multiple times over the years and inspect it before any trip. After each trip that I use it, I always wash it (to get rid of the fiber killing grit) and air dry it (out of the sun to prevent UV deterioration.) It is STILL my go to recovery strap.

I also carry a brand new 17.5 K ARB recovery strap as a backup. I have no experience using it, but bought it based on good reviews.
Once my Keeper strap retires, I'm going with this as my primary.
