Hey everyone, after a string of break-ins and thefts in my neighborhood, I'm in the market for a quality alarm. I just started researching what all is available and figured I may as well check in with the infinite knowledge, wisdom, and expertise here on TW.

I'd like an alarm that'll scream and alert my phone if the vehicle is tampered with or broken into. GPS tracking is preferred. Remote start is not necessary but would be nice; it'll have to be compatible with a manual transmission.

I'd like to hear from any of you using an after-market alarm. What brand and what kind of features it has as well as price. I'm also interested to hear if you had it installed by a third party or did it yourself.

Criminals are bold here. They broke into most of the vehicles on my street recently. I think the only reason they didn't get into mine was because I was out of town. They definitely don't care if your home/driveway is well lit or has cameras either.

So after a lot of reading, I decided to go with a Viper 5706V coupled with the Viper SmartStart which has live GPS tracking from an authorized dealer on eBay. The alarm itself cost me $230 and the SmartStart was an additional $80. Not a bad deal, in my eyes at least, considering they 5706V retails for over $500 and the SmartStart with GPS retails for $200 from Best Buy, and that's with the black Friday special! I got everything in a sealed box within a few days and I'm planning to install it over the upcoming weekend.

Cool features include remote start, a 2-way remote, notifications directly to my phone and the key fob, and full control system directly from my phone. If I decide to spend 6 months in Australia, I can start and run my truck from my phone to keep the battery charged - all from my phone.

Looking forward to sleeping better at night, not looking forward to the half million connections I'll have to make.
