Took my 05’ double cab in for the frame inspection and it failed. So while I can, I am going to be replacing a lot of under body parts and pretty much save on the labor.

On of the things I am looking to replace is the exhaust system from the cat back.

Not looking for anything too loud, but something that could add a touch of sound.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    OP, good thinking.

After finding a hole in my stock muffler, I decided to replace the exhaust system from the cat back with Magnaflow #17115. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-17115

$300 shipped next day directly to my garage and installed same day. This model is a turn down exhaust exit before rear tire.

Overall, I like the sound. The sound is deep growl with only minimal cabin drone at certain speeds. Makes the truck sound a bit more beefy. After a few days, I was pretty used to the sound.

I DO notice the sound every time I start the truck, which makes me smile

I went with Magnaflow because I was satisfied with another exhaust system from them installed on a previous vehicle. Haven't heard a Tacoma with a Flowmaster in person, but I'm sure they also sound great.

Try searching on YouTube for reviews with sound clips.

Ah open headers! Brings me back to my first vehicle, a 1970 CJ-5 that my dad and I built. 304 V8 with headers to straight pipes, right out the side next to the drivers seat. I think back now and can’t believe I actually dealt with that sound because it was so loud it was obnoxious.

As far as the exhaust with the turndown before the rear tire... any problems with fumes coming back into the cabin with the windows down?

    Appreciate the feedback.

Keeping in mind I have a bed shell...

No problems with the exhaust coming back in with the front windows down. I'll try opening the rear window later today and get back to you.

With the OEM exhaust, I had a problem with fumes coming with the rear window open while the bed shell was on.

Add a touch of sound and not be too loud? TRD for sure! I have one and love it. No drone at all and loud at all during regular driving. I only hear it at startup or if I'm getting on it.

I have friends with magnaflow exhausts or with an replacement Aero muffler welded in and they sound good but are a bit loud

I did the same thing, frame replace along with everything else underneath.
I researched for about 3 months and decided on MBRP, minimal drone, quiet on the highway, has a nice little baby v8 rumble and not "ricey" there is actually some lifter noise that can be heard vs straight air through baffles.
Took me 30 minutes to install in my driveway.
everyone has ther eown preferences, youtube for sound clips.

Yea I am replacing a lot of stuff underneath. Everything from tank straps to tranny mounts. Going to cost about $1500 out of pocket, but no labor and the dealership is allowing me to buy aftermarket parts and take them up there to install. They have been pretty awesome about it.

if your eyeing 5100's or anything, throw those in the mix too. Dealership normally doesn't like to touch aftermarket stuff but they did on mine with some persuasion.

I am replacing the rear 5100s. The front is new. They are also reinstalling my add a leaf in the rear, i just have to supply with longer U bolts and center pin. They have been really easy to work with.

Question for you... Did the control arms come with your frame replacement? The service guy I am dealing with wasn't sure and was going to look into it. Kind of weird he didn't know.
