Hey Taco bro's and girls, I recently took my '16 into a shop for them to wire up an led light bar. Please let me know if this sounds like trouble! I am worried.

A shop wired my LED light bar up, and said they had hooked the bar/switch into the headlights, meaning when the headlights were running, the Sasquatch switch in the cab was on and I could turn the bar on/off. When the headlights were not on, the switch would not light up and the bar would not turn on.

So after one of my headlights went out, I took it back. They informed me the fuse where it was originally installed had overheated and melted a little. They then wired it up so that the switch is always on (the little led light for the switch is always lit). My only concern is, will that little LED light drain my battery if always left on? He said "you could leave that thing parked for 2 months and it would start back up".

Is there a specific fuse everyone wires into so that the switch is not tied into the head lights and the switch turns off when the truck is off? Thank you for reading this. IMG_20170930_205123_730.jpg

If you're going to tie the bar into the headlights you should just be drawing signal power from the headlight power wire through your interior switch to trigger the relay. The light for the interior switch should be coming from your dash lights (usually tapped from the cargo light switch to the left of the steering wheel). Nothing in the system, except the main power supply for the relay itself, should ever be connected without switched power. All of the aftermarket relay/wiring kits should come with an in-line fuse (15 A for 180 W bar) coming into the relay from the battery.
