Truckcoversusa tonneau & a killer way to transport bikes

Installed a Truckcoversusa retractable cover that has Yakima tracks already installed. The canister that it retracts into is small (only 8x8") and retracts very smoothly. LOVE it! In the process of installing a sweet Yakima rack system but found time this morning to take a quick trip to a local trail for a ride.

In a few days I'll put a spare tire carrier in the basket for the spare.

 

How did you purchase the cover with the rack installed? Direct or local dealer?

 

Direct but I’ve seen a couple dealers that sell it with the Yakima rail add-on option

 

Does the cover let water in? I have the bakflip and saw this one after I bought my bakflip. This would be awesome to put a tent on plus be able to use the cover to easily access your stuff.

There are two spots by the cab end that I filled easy with silicone and that worked great.

I might do three bars across to support a tent. Some guys on here have put tents on them so look and see if they used two or three.

Love my Santa Cruz and at some point will get another but hard to justify when this one still rips

This is an incredible upgrade for the truck. The cover is pricey and is the most expensive mod I've done honestly, but it transformed the usefulness of my bed so I can carry a couple of kayaks and 2-3 bikes on top of the bed while leaving the bed free for waterproof/locking storage for camping weekends. And the racks snap right off when I need to haul larger items (and the canister only takes up a few inches in the back so you aren't losing a ton of bed space.

 

It's definitely a top notch cover. Probably my favorite mod. Any idea what the load rating is on the yakima rails? Also, where did you run the drainage tubes? I ran mine through the storage cubbies and down below the frame to avoid drilling visible holes but am starting to regret having all that tubing in the way.

Has anyone considered trying to make their own tool box, similar to the one they sell? I like the idea but theirs is absurdly expensive for such a small box ($800).

 

I ran the drainage tubes where recommended meaning my holes are very noticeable but the tubes are out of the way for the most part. I am not sure on the yakima load ratings but I know for a fact i've easily hauled over 400lbs of bikes/boats/paddles on them with no issue.

 

Thanks for the input! I was considering getting some of those mounting brackets from Mobtownoffroad or KBvoodoo that are supposed to work with a tonneau cover. Not sure how it would work with this one in particular though.

This is from another thread, but you can see where I ran the tube. Still a visible hole, but I figured the door would be easy to replace if desired.
