firewall insulation -> rodent nest

    so I popped the hood of my taco the other day, and oh geez, on the rigth fender, forward of the shock tower, was this nice perfectly shaped nest made of this dark green fluff... the $#@$@# bugger tore virtually ALL of the insulation off the firewall :-/

    is that insulation purely for containing engine noise, or does it serve other purposes too?
