Not sure where you're located, but here is a smokin deal on a Bedslide, https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/cargoglide-1000-for-longbed-2nd-or-3rd-gen.514051/. it's for a long bed, but you could cut it down and re-weld it to fit your SB. That's what I did, I found a super cheap Bedslide on CL, but it was in a Chevy Silverado, but I spent a weekend measuring, cutting, grinding and welding and made it work. I gave up the 3 "lock out" points, but only need the fully extended lockout point. Rigged my own lock out catch pin and voila! Something to think about. They can be reworked, might be more choices out there to find if you're willing to rework them a bit

Fabbed a mount out of a bracket you use to brace a door of a house with using a 2x4 (came with the house so there were no squatters), a threaded rod, some washers, lock washer, wing nut and a t-slot nut. Total cost: Less than $10 maybe less.

    Since you’ve done both:

That’s almost identical to my current setup. Any pros to the old setup?

Lower center of gravity, less drag, less height to lift the tent up to. I had a fiberglass tonneau though that it had to have to park (city ordinance) on public streets overnight. It got REALLY annoying to have to remove, put the bars on, put the tent on, then the opposite once I came home. Technically, if I was lazy or came home late from a trip, I could just park and leave it overnight if I wanted to.

Looks like you replied while I was editing, just one last question, I promise.

We tow a sailboat that has a 27’ mast that hangs over the bed while towing, so an RTT on top of the cap is no-go. If you had to choose between the old setup or just a cap and platform, which would you choose?

If I didn't have to have a bed cover per the city ordinance, I would keep the old setup. Hands down.

But the security and weathproofing is second to none

Some inspirational setups in this thread. Some squirrels chewed up my carpet while I had my topper off for the summer. One more thing to replace now. Bastards

For you guys putting a rtt on your toppers, what brand and model topper are you using? I'm in the market for one, and my local dealer is telling me that leer and a.r.e are only rated for 300 pounds on the roof. I'm having a hard time buying into it.

Leer 100R. It is important to know the difference between static and dynamic ratings.
