Well....has anyone with the 4cyl in a 2nd gen had this issue?

    You mean failure 'just because'?

Any will fail if abused by overheating.

I've been around here a while and don't recall reading about this as a recurring issue.

Suggest running some searches in the 4 cyl forum.

Yes as in just because. I have never taken my truck beyond 4500 rpms (maybe not even 4000 rpms) and I have rarely towed.

    So you have a failure?

As a side note, neither RPM nor towing should have anything to do with it unless they contributed to overheating. And while that is the most common reason for failure, sometimes stuff just happens.

No...I dont have a failure...I just want to know so I can prepare ahead of time if its prone to the 2nd gen 2.7l engine.

Keep the cooling system healthy and odds are you'll never have a problem.

Usually when a head gasket blows with normal usage and not over heated it is either a bad designed gasket or the coolant is old and has gone acidic which will eat the gasket.

Ok...I think my question must be worded poorly.

The 4.0L v6 is supposedly known for a bad head gasket design that fails premature and without hard stress on the engine. Is the 2nd gen. 2.7L engine also known to have this issue? Nothing is wrong with my trucks head gasket. I am just wondering if the problem is tacamo wide or just specific to the 4.0

4.0, solved sometime during the '06 production run IIRC.
