I'm meticulous with maintenance on my 2010 TRD OR. Despite that my truck pings around 1500 rpm. I'm resigned that it is just normal for my truck.

No. Not normal. Has it always done this? Have you tried different gas. Is it a manual Trans? Do you sometimes get run-on after you turn it off? Has anyone been screwing with the ignition timing? Can't think of any more questions...:notsure:

Like @Steadfast pointed out, it might be gas. You might have just got a bad slug of gas, or noticed it on the winter blend of gas. Try midgrade or premium next fill and see if it goes away.

    Fresh plugs also help.

Run 87 octane only try to stick with chevron. Always some ping, I'm not running premium in a truck that takes 87

Running hotter than spec, carbon build up on pistons (faux compression rise + fuel adsorption), faulty knock sensor, plugs fouled are all potential causes.

While more expensive fuel might 'solve' ping, it's really just masking the problem, and should not be needed in a stock truck.

Go give 'er an Italian Tuneup. Find your fuel cut.

    Not normal or even okay.
I too have a 2010 Tacoma V-6, and it has 109,000 miles on it. Always maintained fully, oil changes, gear oil, tranny fluid, etc.
I run 87 octane here in California (90% gas, 10% ethanol) and in Mexico (100% pure gasoline). Never pings... The truck has automatic ping prevention (retards timing), so yours is not working correctly.
I use Costco gasoline mostly, after many tests with fuel mileage using Shell and Chevron (also using Premium) and that changed nothing. All gasoline comes from the same storage tanks here in San Diego and I just add my own Techrolene on occasion.

The trucks knock sensors could be working improperly, or not at all.

My truck used to ping a bit, similar rpm, and more so when it was under a “load” just after an up shift or climbing a grade.

I got the dealership TSB done and switched to new iridium plugs and it has not come back since.

I dont believe the tsb applies to 2010s?

A knock sensor will not cause a knock. A knock sensor detects engine knock.

One is pre-ignition of the fuel inside the cylinders causing piston rattles.
The other is a small blood-sucking insect.

Yes I know, I just meant that the sensors may not be working, allowing the engine to run in a condition that it knocks because the ecu does nothing to adjust and fix it.

Not totally sure, you may be correct.
