This. I believd the Amesoil Severe Gear goes to 100k miles.

Boutique oils are more for extended intervals. If you aren’t going to do this don’t bother with the more expensive stuff.

been using the AMSOIL severe gear ( the weight you mentioned as well) for about 261,000 miles. OEM was drained and replaced with the AMSOIL at 100,000. drained and refilled again at 200,00 with AMSOIL. Fluid in the difffs and t-fer case currently has about 161,000 miles on it. (361,000 total right now) I'll probably change it out at 400,000.
Oh, you'll still need the limited slip additive (I used AMSOIL as well) in the limited slip rear. I thought the same thing originally, shouldn't need it. You do.

needless to say, I recommend the AMSOIL Severe gear oil

    Good luck

spot on advice, just change it regularly at 30k miles, usually an over the counter gear oil works just as well as the boutiques when doing those intervals. I was looking at an FJ owners forum and a lot are using the Walmart 75w90 gl5 semi syn in thiers FJs instead of the req'd 75w85 and are holding up fine with it.

I changed all 3 with Mobil 1 75w90 LS about 2 years ago and roughly 20k miles later of mostly city driving I'm not hearing or feeling anything that gives me concern. Will probably go ahead and change them out over the winter or early spring just due to age. Will be curious if they are anywhere near as nasty as the factory oil was at ~30k miles.

Based on my recent experience at the dealership with an oil change I ran out of time to do myself, and asked them what the upcharge would be for synthetic I can fully believe $37+/quart for diff oil.

I don't believe you should need any additive at all since you don't have a mechanical limited slip. The additive is for 05-08 Sport models.

FWIW, I used CarQuest 80w-90 with a tube of additive in my 07 and it works just fine.

I run Amsoil 75W-90 Severe Gear as well, the original poster won't need the LS additive though due to the "limited slip" function in his being performed by the ABS system. Yours would since it's an 07.

The Amsoil Severe Gear line does have the friction modifier included, but it's on the light side. Every clutch pack type LSD I've seen use Amsoil did have to add a little extra friction modifier to prevent chatter.
