i have a 07 sport with what is suppose to be a mechanical LSD. Is it something that has to be in 4L to use like the lockers or can i just be say in 2H and it will engage when it wants or needs to?

Clutch packs in the rear that engage under low traction conditions, all times.

The clutch packs can wear over time loosing the effectiveness. But yours more than likely works. A gravel road will tell all.

It's only refered to "mechanical" LSD because the later models got simulated LSD via brake modulating.

Not to my knowledge. If the clutch packs in it are worn, rebuilding/replacing it is about the only recourse.

I'm sure there's rebuild kits are out there, somewhere. I was able to source one for the factory LSD in my Jeep's rear axle.
