Has anyone changed the supplied rubber hose with clamps (from the filter to the metal fuel line) to some quick lock style adapters?

I don't like the oversize hose with 4 clamps, it not feel reliable and the big loop of rubber hose is not what I like to see.

    Is this right part? https://www.ebay.com/itm/121616836122
2 of these and AN6 fuel line with desirable angles between?

I'm not a big fan of the loop either; however, I think a proper length hose between the tank and filter with correct fittings would also be an improvement. When I installed mine a concern I had was ensuring that the filter and hose was installed securely and tucked up above the frame crossmember to prevent the chance of a fire from road debris taking out your filter. I'm still not completely happy with the setup and would love to hear ideas from anyone else who may have thought of something better.

There seems to be much more space in Tacoma than FJ. Sits better.

There's gotta be a better way, perhaps a fabricated bracket that the fuel filter can mount to, and proper length hoses with appropriate quick lock fasteners mounted to both ends of the fuel filter. When I put mine together, I realized that due to the length of the factory tubing that runs from the top of the pump to the filter left me with two choices: either attach and strap the filter and hoses so they hung down below the crossmember, or to bend the factory hose over about 25 degrees and mount the filter and hoses in a safer location above the crossmember and out of harms way. I did have a the concern of crimping or ovaling the inside diameter of the factory hose, but didn't think that would happen because of the stiff structure of the factory hose.
Ultimately, I think a custom length hose from the top of the pump to a safe location for the filter and hoses would be best.

That is a 5/16" hard line. Just make sure. On the Tacoma it is 5/16". I did a that adapter on mine.

Warning, a pile of Russell fittings ain’t cheap, lol.

I think this is right. I just woke up and haven’t had my caffeine dosage yet this morning. :pccoffee:

Early morning thought: I wonder if you can use hard tubing and compression fittings to connect everything. Maybe something like 0.5" 316SS with 5/16" reducers and full port ball valves up and downstream of the filter for quick and easy replacement or cleaning.

I just installed the URD upgrade, also looking for a more permanent and clean installation. Otherwise very happy with the upgrade, it definitely made a big difference. Seems to have improved MPG throttle response and taken care of the lean condition code I was throwing at WOT.

    @loginfailed
The question I have is, did you replace the entire high pressure fuel line from the filter forward?

If not where did you begin and end your russell fittings?

There’s a connection just in front of the fuel tank. Start and ends there.

So you're still having a large loop there just with AN lines and fittings? Is it feasible to replace the high pressure line from the rail back to the filter to the stock tank outlet clip? Or splice the line somewhere along it's run to keep everything inline?

    It’s a loop, yes.

With -an fittings and braided lines you could do whatever your heart desires with the fuel line.

I don’t see a reason why a little loop is hurting anything. It’s still 43psi at the rail according to my gauge.

I'm not worried about it hurting anything, I'm just more interested in removing the loop, just a cleaner install overall with less futzin when it's time to chance the filter in 60k. Make a 20min job a 2 min job by spending 2hrs on a mod you know? :D

I guess I don't see much point in spending the money on the fittings couplers and hoses when the ultimate form factor, the loop, is still in play.

@loginfailed , could you post the picture of your fuel filter setup in here as well, please.

The reason he did his specific setup, from my observation, is that now it takes mere seconds to replace the fuel filter. With OEM style connectors, clip on, clip off. Easy. A little more investment saves a lot of time.

I will add this though. Some flow data of the filter which comes with the URD kit, showed it to be around 277 lph, if I remember correctly. Swapping to a 3/8" in/out fuel filter (easy enough with 3/8" fittings) might help improve fuel filter flow. Possibly a different filter as well.

The hardline requires more tools and is a little less forgiving to work with, but could work none the less. Like loginfailed mention, it all depends on what you want to do.

I didn't use hard line, but I did upgrade my outlet to a -8AN line, going to the fuel rail. The fuel rail is also a -8AN. The outlet of the fuel pressure regulator is a -6AN. I want to upgrade that to -8AN in the future.

    -6AN is congruent with 3/8"

I didn't like the way it all fit up in there with the rubber hose, and didn't like zip ties holding the fuel filter to the truck. The way mine is set up it easy to change too. No hose clamps.
