For those of you who regularly hit the slopes in the mountains and/or live in icy locations like the Pacific Northwest.

Do you run one set of wheels and tires all year long OR swap them out with dedicated winter tires? I can’t fathom buying chains if required by the DOT.

This thread isn’t to debate 4wd acceleration vs the softer compounds of dedicated winter tires, but more about what skiers, snowboarders, hikers and/or explorers use on icy road (on road, not Offroad) conditions.

Thank you all for your input.

I run the KO2s and have been happy with them, till this year. The tires have about 30k miles on them and look great, but their ability to stick to slick surfaces has notably degraded this winter. I've run a used set of Duratracs, also with about 30k on them. They were horrible on anything slick. But many raw about them. I think both likely suffer from the same issue.

I remember driving with ko2s in snow before the truck was mine, did better than the MTs, but chains or studs will help more

I have two sets, for the winter I run my stock rims with Blizzack DMV2s. They are way better than any AT tire when it comes to ice and wet snow.
Makes driving in bad weather almost enjoyable.
