Thinking of putting together a Thanksgiving weekend camping trip. Leave hella early Thursday morning and return Sunday. Thinking of the Downieville area, lots of recreational activities available, in addition to some great wheeling opportunities, fishing, mountain biking, kayaking, prospecting...Nice campsites available along rivers and lakes. We'll do a potluck Thanksgiving afternoon after setting up camp.

I'm open to other suggestions as well, Eagle lakes, Mendocino, Slick Rock, Mojave..as long as it's out of the Bay area (that includes Frank Raines, and Hollister), and not snowing.

Sounds like fun, but I've got more family to entertain than I can fit into the truck for a trip like this. :)

Cancelled, have to fill in at work that saturday for a coworker that got fired. Now everyone on our crew has to work an extra day until we fill the position.:censored:
After doing some YOUtube research I had narrowed it down to the Mojave Road. 138 miles through the desert, 2-3 days to complete, nothing too technical that a stock truck can't maneuver through, river crossing at the end. I'll try and reschedule in January, maybe MLK weekend.

    Back on!
I'm going to do the Mojave Road/trail, just south of Las Vegas , it runs from Needles to Barstow, if anyone wants to join. The drive down is about 8 hours from the bay area. The trail itself is about 118-140 miles long and takes about 2-3 days days to complete if you take all the customary stops to explore the ruins and lava tubes etc. Can be done in a stock truck, yet there are features to keep it interesting and challenging, including a river crossing, Joshua tree forest, dry lake bed (Soda Lake)....Tons of youtube videos if you want to check it out.
