I’ve come across posts that state the 0W-20 is a little on the thin side and doesn’t provide the required lubrication.

Thin Zero is good for start ups to get everything lubed which can take a minute or two. High temps, high rpm, heavy pulls 0-30 or 0-40 is fine. Probably loose a little mpg though.

I'm not concerned about that. Until Toyota engineers tell me different, 0W-20 will go in my truck.

any 0w20 motor oil works, just change it out at the recommended intervals, none are better than others, only the price matters. buying an expensive boutique brand oil doesn't make sense when you change it out at 5k or 10k miles, best bang for the buck is MOBIL1 at Walmart with the MOBIL rebate best deal going.

You'd still get your four service interval visits that includes two oil changes.

Both my 2014 FJ UTTE and my 2017 Tacoma 4X4 were both done at 5k. I have 10k on the Tacoma and just got my second oil change. The FJ had 5 free oil changes all done under Toyotacare Did something change ? from what I was told at the last service Im schedule to come back at 15k at no charge I guess I will just have to wait and see

You've got it right. I didn't put 5k on my truck on my 1st 6 month interval so they just did the multipoint inspection and tire rotation. Then I went on two long road trips and brought it in at 5,500 miles for the oil change. They called it a 10,000 mile service.

I get the impression if your mileage and time intervals work out right you can get five visits and possibly 5 oil changes. The way my low mileage is I might get three oil changes...depending on how much of a stickler the dealership is about interpreting the terms of the plan.

Yes, but don't expect a 3rd "free" oil change, again some places will give it to ya, but many others are holding to 2. At my 5k service, I asked for an oil change, the guy said sure, we will just treat this like the 10k and skip your 5. I said nope, paid for the oil change.

Ya it changed, but not all places realize this and there is some confusion.

    That's the key right there.
