Spark plugs must be dual-electrode & correct gap.
OEM Denso or NGK are best imo

The ones I took out were single and the E3 are tri-electrode

3.4L requires dual-electrode spark plugs, says in the Owner's manual. Anything else causes problems.

There's plenty of guys that run more modern single electrode spark plugs and are fine. I bought dual electrodes so take that for what it's worth. I haven't heard about anyone using triple electrode plugs like the ones you got. It could be spark plugs that can't keep up for whatever reason with the engine at higher rpms but you won't know until you check for the issue diagnostically.

OP you should start with the basics. Check for any pending check engine codes if you have a scanner and if you can pony up the $40 or less for a blue tooth obd2 scanner and software that passes data to your phone you can find out what's going on without even turning a wrench. Even though it's an additional purchase it'll pay off over time. Plus, unless you have experience telling single or misfires by ear, you don't know if it's one or multiple and if your problem lies with one little issue or possibly an issue like spark plugs that aren't working correctly in multiple cylinders.

Other than that you can change spark plug wires and boots around to see if you're not getting a charge to any of the plugs. This can also isolate any specific cylinder or cylinders that is / are missing.

I'd at least pull the coils and inspect them and reseat them on the plugs to make sure one isn't cockeyed somehow.

So the engine is hunting and surging? Could be a vacuum leak or intake manifold gaskets need replaced

I'd start with looking for a vacuum leak - the manifolds fit pretty nicely together.

was it doing all this prior to the plug install ?

Dual electrode are recommended as the plug fires on every up stroke of the piston (compression and exhaust) due to the nature of having one coil firing 2 cylinders, the added spark potentially erodes the electrode faster. Using an "inferior" style or brand shouldn't cause issue right away, but anything is possible. Cracked porcelain would cause a misfire, didn't happen to drop a plug did you ?

A weak boot on a coil pack could also cause a misfire, did you happen to use dielectric grease on any of the boots ? how old are the wires ? OEM or basic parts house "stuff" non quality wires will have issues a lot sooner than good OEM or name brand stuff ( NGK/DENSO) Boots on the coil packs are replaceable and are available, they do breakdown over time.

You should have included the truck was already misfiring / surging / whatever in the original post, but at this point it could be multiple things - if there was a vacuum leak there could be a bigger one from you bumping one of the vacuum hoses while changing out the spark plugs or removing the manifold. A code reader would still be a good idea. If there's an autoparts store that will rent you a smoke machine you could look for vacuum leaks. Usually the rental charge is returned once you return the tool.
