You could also splint your finger. Not to keep it from bending, but so that every time you hit something with your finger, the splint takes the brunt of the force, allowing your nail to heal - without constant movement/agitation.

I learned that idea from an ER doc when I sliced my finger cutting pastrami - a long, long time ago....

You might want to have it X-rayed. I smashed my finger awhile back and did the drill bit thing. Being at work they made me go get it checked and it ended up being fractured. Not a big deal, except that now that I drilled a hole, I had what was considered an open bone wound and needed to do a round of antibiotics to avoid a bone infection.

I doubt it's fractured, I have no pain and full use of the finger.

Anyone in here know much about cancer? My grandpa has prostate cancer, don't know what stage because both of my grandparents are terrible at remembering all the info that the doctor says (It's not uncommon for them to have different stories of what the Doc said after the same visit) but what they do know is it's a very aggressive form of prostate cancer, they have done an MRI and have another scheduled in the next few weeks.

Because of his previous bouts with cancer my grandpa is refusing Chemo and cannot receive anymore radiation, his treatment option now is hormone shots.

Forgot to ask my doctor, why two burr holes to relieve pressure in my head? One at top of my ear seems to not want to finish closing, guessing that was one or just from my eye glasses, dabbed just a little blood the other day. This goes back to mid August.

Is it common to make two holes? Have a couple titanium disks in my skull now. Just wondered why that area has not finished healing completely. Feels weird in that area, still partially numb. Something they applied that my skin is still reacting to? Feels clammy if that's the word, from above my ear to where they cut my scalp. Had 40 staples.

wow, well i would guess it depends on where they felt it was needed to add a relief point.

question is does it look infected? do you feel sick?

the thing is Doctors usually know what they are doing, and honestly this question is way out of my scope as a medic. but i would say if you feel like something isn't right, make an appt or drop by the drs office to have them check it out.

If you still have a hole in your head 2 months later I'd get it checked by the doctor that did the surgery.

I bite into a cake yesterday and immediately felt my face swell. I took a benadryl and one side went down in about 10 minutes. The other side is very swollen from below my ear to almost my chin. Benadryl ain't working so any idea.
No tooth or mouth pain but my jaw hurts when I chew. No fever either just alot of swelling and no history of food allergies

Someone poisoned you. Start digging your grave now so the living don't end up with a back injury digging it for you at minimum wage.

Any trouble breathing or a rash on chest, stomach, arms, legs or back? If so might want to get to a ER. Must have been something in there you're allergic to.

No issues breathing or unexplained rashes. Most of the swelling is under the ear and just below the cheek. Uncomfortable as hell and modestly painful if I chew. I treating it with cheap whiskey

Got some good laughs and interesting points after reading through 40 + pages of this thread (slow night on 3rd shift). I don’t work in the medical field but I do assist the fire department we have here at the airport to respond to medical calls, and if necessary I escort ambulances on/off the airfield. Mainly my job during medicals is to report to our comms center time stamps like “patient contact” and “negative transport at gate _” for liability reasons. Fortunate enough to not experience any fatalities or aircraft crashes yet, but working at one of the biggest airports in the USA it’s only a matter of time. Anyway, hello from AZ

Item number 1 by a long shot for ANY med kit: get the training to use the stuff. Trained/practiced aiders have a much better idea of which items will be useful to them in a kit.
