    This that and the other thing.
    This is how to switch from the Crux SWRTY-61S to the Pac SWI-RC in order to add the right hand side steering wheel controls without buying a new wiring harness or having to splice into the factory wires.

    This was done on a 2009 TRD Sport with a AVH-X2800BS Head Unit. I am adding the RH Steering Wheel Controls and in order to do so I'm switching the steering wheel interface from a Crux SWRTY-61S to a Pac SWI-RC.

    For those of you who also have the same HU. Check your firmware, newest version is 8.22. Update Instructions/Firmware Update.

    Last summer I swapped out my stock radio for my Pioneer head unit using the Crux interface in order to maintain my steering wheel controls and also the Aux Jack input under the A/C controls. Everything worked out nicely and I was happy as could be. That was until I found out that you can add the right hand steering wheel controls. So I bought everything I needed to accomplish my goal. When time came to do the mod I realized I only had the Cruxs' wire harness. Anyway this is how I switched from the Crux to the Pac using the Crux's wire harness. Hope this helps someone later down the road.

    Crux SWRTY-61S
    PAC SWI-RC
    PAC install instructions for MY truck.

    I bought mine from crutchfield.ca

    Part #'s:
    Ribbon - 84204-58010
    RH Control - 8424435030B0
    RH + LH + Ribbon - 8425004010B0 (to get matching LED colors)

    How to Install the right hand steering wheel control.

    After reading the PAC instructions and looking at the Crux wiring harness I determined that the 5 wires with the little black plug that plugs into the Crux is as follows.

    Black = Ground
    Red = +12v
    Green = Pin 6
    Purple = Pin 7
    Blue = Pin 8

    So I cut the black plug off, stripped the ends and got them ready to solder.

    Using the PAC instructions along with having figured out what the wires from the Crux are for I then soldered my corresponding wires together

    Wires From Crux -(to) Wires From PAC

    Red - Red
    Black and Green/Black - Black
    Blue - White/Black
    Purple - White

    That extra bright green wire is my parking break wire which I had forgot to ground during the original head unit install. A lot of people run parking break bypasses that you can find on Amazon but grounding it worked for my head unit almost the same. It allowed me to access Bluetooth controls and other things, but I'm not sure if it allows video while in motion, which at this point, is not something I require. A parking brake bypass may be something I will do in the future when I'm bored and looking for some sort of project to occupy my time.

    I Installed my two new steering wheel controls by following THESE instructions.
    I replaced both of mine because if you replaced just the RH side (8424435030B0) the LED's will not match the LH side.

    I re-installed my head unit, programmed the PAC and everything works as it should! I velcroed the PAC unit under the dash so I have easy access to it if I ever have to reprogram it.

    On a side note; When I was programming the PAC I chose to program the Track Down button on the control as the Track + on the PAC. I did this so that while I am listening to the radio and I want to switch from Pre-set 1 to Pre-set 2 I can hit the down button on the steering wheel. I listen to the radio more then anything else. On my HU the pre-set radio stations are numbered, 1 at the top of the screen and 5 is at the bottom. If I had left the up button at Track +, when I pushed the up button, it would visually move down on the screen (increasing from 1 to 2). This way when I push down it will visually moves down on the screen.

    My HU is not compatible with voice control so I programmed that button to Mute my audio, how ever, it does not function 100% properly. It mutes the volume using something called Attenuation, thus lowering the volume by 20db. There are settings on the HU which allow me to change the muting preference from Attenuation to MUTE or OFF, but even with the settings changed and the updated firmware, I still only get the volume decrease and no full Mute. I spoke with pioneer and after several back and forth emails they stopped replying. Personally I think its a firmware issue but I will live with it for now. If I find a solution I will update the thread.

    Since I had the HU out I figured I would do the mod that allows you to display the OEM back up camera on the HU. I followed the thread bellow and here is a picture of the results.

    I had made my own RCA cable over the winter. I soldered on my own 2-16awg wire that I had left over from a previous project. I'm hoping with a heavier gauge wire and a high quality connector that the video quality is superb.

    Tried upgrading today in hopes of getting the right-side controls working with my Sony avx-ax100 headunit (with the CRUX, only the left-side controls registered). The Pac SWI-RC instructions say to use the white and white/black wire and one of the black ground pairs to Toyota's connector. I should note that on mine, only three pins (6,7,8) were pinned.

    Did that, wired the other black and red to ground/12+ respectively. The remaining wires were trimmed a bit and the ends protected.

    The selector on the SWI-RC was set to 7 for Sony, and the device was set to program 8. We went thru the programming sequence a number of times, and we never could get VOL-UP to work. Pressing the button on the steering wheel causes the unit's LED to blink as expected, so I know that much is working... just no signal being sent to the Sony that it's recognizing. We also tried both of the Next/Prev sets, and while they worked on the radio presets they didn't to track fwd/prev when on other modes (music on the phone, etc).

    I'm going to call Pac tomorrow to see what they have to say ... hopefully can get this working better. The Sony also allows custom programming on the headunit ... select a function and map a button to it. I might have to give that a try as well.

    EDIT: It's all working -- the custom programming was used to map all the steering wheel controls (both sides) to the appropriate functions.

    Glad you managed to get everything working :thumbsup: weird that you had to use the custom programming on your HU to get it to work though haha good thing you were able to do so!

    Bocsy44,
    I’d just like to know how you got the SWRTY-61S to work. I just installed it tonight with a Kenwood KDC-BT278U and can’t figure out how to make the SWC work. I only had to splice one wire according to the instructions, but had a left-over pair of RCAs (for aux, not needed) and 3.5mm male jack that doesn’t plug into anything. I also have one harness in the dash that connected to nothing on the new set-up.
