On cold mornings (less than 60 degrees) when I start up my truck and turn the wheel at a standstill or at slow speed there is a whining under the hood. Once the truck heats up everything sounds fine.

On warm/hot days there isn't any sound.

I'm about to do a bunch of work at 100k, does it sound like my PS pump is going?

    Thanks!

Had like dead spots with mine around 120k. Used a transfer pump to suck out the resivor filled with fresh. Started truck cranked the wheel to each stop and repeated it a few times. Did this a few occasions and mine is fixed now. People use turkey basters also to suck the old stuff out also.

Try changing fluid , then if you have -deadspots- clean and lube the flex joint ion bottom of of column, i changed my pump and didn't have to.

Some minor squeaking when it rains but otherwise it's pretty quiet under the hood.

I'm coming up on 100k and was going to replace the serpentine belt. As long as I was under there might as well go for the water pump. And heck, now that it's all off why not he power steering pump if that's going wonky? And it's about time for new hoses, I guess-- and new fluid then. And new plugs (these are original). Gotta do the front brakes and discs as well (original and pulsing slightly when I brake). Rotate/balance/align tires. Oil/filter/diff. Manual tranny fluid? Oh, and the battery is going on 5 years now. Need new wipers. Did I mention the engine and cabin air filters? Should also check the bearings and CV joints.

Sheesh, I want this truck to last to 200k but the 100k maintain is going to kill the budget.
