I took my taco the other day for regular maintenance and Toyota told me that my valve cover gasket was leaking and needed to be replaced. Like usual they want to charge an arm and a leg to do it. I have a pretty good idea on how to do it but the only question I have is other than the gasket do I need to purchase any other parts to do this job ?

That too since you'll have to remove the intake runners to get to the driver side valve cover.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IThNiZcs4bI There are quite a few of these youtube videos. My advice would be to watch a few, gather all parts and tools needed. Have a parts runner vehicle? Good to have when you have it all torn apart!

OP, Not to toot my own horn, but I think you'll find the video my buddy Sean and I did for this job much more informative and comprehensive than the video linked above. Good luck with the job.

Just finished my valve covers a few hours ago. My truck had never had the plugs changed. It had denso dual ground on the drivers side and NGK single ground on the other..... weird? The plugs were extremely worn to say the least

I'm gonna tackle this one next week. Ordered all applicable parts on Amazon for under 100$. All genuine Toyota parts, of course!

I chunked the plugs in the trash as I was swapping them out. I didn't even think to take pictures. My truck has around 236,000 miles on it.

I need to do this job a second time...still leaks after I originally did it and the smell of the oil dripping on the headers is getting old.

I did mine for the first time not too long ago. It was actually quite easy. I was hesitant at first, but after watching a few videos, I figured that it wasn't going to be too tough to do. I just made sure to take my time and not try to overdo anything unnecessarily.

One thing I did not expect was that the spark plug seals became brittle. So when I pulled the cover, I noticed that a few chunks of the seals fell in. Good thing they were large pieces, and I was able to fish them out without any problems.

While the valve cover was off, I thought about painting it to give it a cleaner look. I decided to leave that for another day.

Probably the cam plugs (one at the rear of each head). I think most guys overlook these.
