I’ve got an 08 that I only use for hunting and fishing. My friend has the wheels from an 02 with great tires on them. His are 16” and because mine is TRD Sport I’ve got 17” rims. Can I just bolt those 16” rims on my 08 or will there be backspacing problem?

If his is a prerunner or 4x4 the bolt pattern will work but I believe the backspacing is pretty different between the gen1 vs gen2. You might consider buying the set for the tires and picking up some cheap second hand TRD OR wheels for a 2nd gen, you are going to need to swap the TPMs over anywhay requiring the tires to be removed from the wheels unless you want the low tire warning on all the time.

Best way to find out is to test fit them on your truck. A tape measure will let you know the backspacing. There is a good chance they will fit just fine. Give it a try.
