I typically change my own oil and I have chosen to do it every 5K miles. At 20K I decided to take it to the dealer as it had not been there since the 5K free service. I took it there for the oil change, tire rotation, and "multi point inspection". Also it was summertime in AZ and too damn hot to be crawling around under my truck.

Today I did the 25K oil change only to discover that it still had the old oil filter from my 15K change that I had done myself. This was obvious to me because I use the Extreme Duty Wix filter which looks very different from the Toyota filter. I compared the numbers on the old filter to the new one that I installed today and they were the same.

Spoke with the service manager and he said the 20K service was done by their senior tech. Nothing he could do as he was taking my word that this happened. Even though I had the old filter and the reciept with me.

    Beware of the dealers!

that sucks that adealer would do that, I think its because lazy techs think that the owners will never figure it out and nobody even cares to do their own OCI services. this happened to me I bring my work van to Jiffy lube for service and noticed they dated the old oil filter with a magic marker and never changed it out, I asked the manager why they didn't change the filter, he said they are good for 2 go rounds so instead of a 6k OCI with filter I got a 12k OCI in reality, freaking shit service these days, they are probably getting away with all their customers, nobody bothers to look they assume everything is good to go.

When I was getting my freebies I marked everything from the oil filter to the wheels. And always took pics before I went, and checked everything right in front of the Service Person as they brought out my slip and keys. Never trust a Stealership never. Now I buy my own oil, filters and have my local guy change the oil, and rotate the tires for 38.00. All while and I am right there in the window as it gets done.

I only go local independent. Other than that if I can't stand there and watch then no go.

the dealership service manger there was covering for the Tech that didn't change out the filter probably because of laziness that's 2 strikes against the dealer, the manager should have rechanged the oil WITH filter free of charge and the next OCI on the house.

X2 on that I try to do all I can within reason with every aspect of life this shit doesn't just go on at the Automobile places, best thing I every did was join TW and research all the threads associated with my truck before taking it in to any mechanic, sometimes I cant do somethings but at least im informed about the service and know what to expect and they cant play shenanigans
