I would definitely look around and go to a different dealer. Maybe wait until spring and have it reinspected, and look under it yourself first.

You can have it inspected once per year up to 12 years from the date of first use

Is there a time limit on how long you have to own the truck before they will do the recall ?

Took my 06 Tacoma to dealership for inspection, before they ever pulled it into the inspection station they told me to expect to pay 1500 to 2500 out of pocket or go to war with Toyota. I had a bad feeling then but went ahead and let them inspect it and told them that I was not going to pay any money out of my pocket, so once the inspected, they came back and told me it failed and I told them again I wouldn't pay for anything that was related to the frame replacement or damaged by the replacement. They gave me the phone number to call Toyota and I left. Set up another inspection with another dealer that couldn't understand why they told me that it would cost me out of pocket right up front and said he would research it. I am going there this afternoon for them to inspect and was told by SM that they would not put any parts on there that would cost me unless I was advised first. So lets see how this goes :)

I'd call TayTay, with the Taoyta docs listed herin that state no cost to replace the frame. I'd get the straight poop from Toyota just to be sure you are in Sync - then I'd report them and be sure to get response in writing about the Dealer. If the deal is padding his pocket as seems probable, I'd be sure to tell all my friend on TayComa World.

Still waiting on the call that my frame is in. Was told at the dealership that it would be no cost out of my pocket for the frame replacement and that they would call me if they found defective items and that I could purchase the parts and bring them in to replace at no extra cost or just not have it fixed. Was going to put the new coils, struts, shocks, and an aal on myself but decided to wait and just have them do it. Just ordered new cv axles (small tear in one) and tie rods as well. Also have new wheels and tires for them to throw on. We shall see how it goes. So now everything is just sitting in my garage.... waiting..

    Rant on
IF this happened to me ( the dealer trying to get me to pay for something so they can get double paid) I'd schedule a meeting with the Dealer manager/owner, get in his office, have his Service manager called in and and rip all of them a very new and very sore anal pore. I'd then call Toyota Corp on his phone hand the senior person in the room the phone and have him explain to Corp why I'm pissed. !!!!!
    Rant off

Took Tacoma to another dealer and they never mentioned any out of pocket expense and basically told me the truck was unsafe to drive. Told them that I needed a truck to drive due to my work and they didn't have any but said they would try to find one. They gave me a 2018 Camry to drive until they find me a truck which they said would be one day next week. Had the previous dealer that "supposedly" inspected the truck would have shown me my frame, I wouldn't have driven away but would have had it towed to another dealer. This dealership seem to bend over backwards to help me out. Told me about a 2 month wait on frame and then a week or less to swap after they got all the parts. I told them over and over again I would not pay a penny for the swap and if there was something that need replaced I would address that at that time and not to put anything on the truck that was going to have to come out of my pocket. My truck was fine other than the frame and was used daily.

I got on the phone with Toyota yesterday and then put them on the phone with service manager but this was trying to get the ok for me a truck, not about charging me. The current dealer never mentioned anything about it would cost me 1500 to 2500 but did say it sounded like that the first dealer just didn't want to do the swap

Figured I would try posting this here first:
Picked up my Tacoma on Tuesday after the frame replacement was complete. All in all it was a pretty easy, painless process.
Finally had the time to check everything out today and discovered that the hose connected to the top of the coolant reservoir was disconnected. There is coolant sprayed all over the passenger side of the engine bay.
I have driven just under 100 miles since picking it up. Is there any concern for damage being caused by this hose not being connected?
Any suggestions on how to approach the dealer on this if necessary?

Hello, I have a 2006 Tacoma and have had since it was new. I was notified approximately 3 years ago to bring it to the dealer for a frame inspection. They did a frame inspection and told me the frame should be replaced which they scheduled and completed at no cost to me.

I had to go back to the dealer 5 or 6 times to have them fix little things that didn't get put back together right. Even then I still had a couple leftover plastic clips that I never found where they came from (dealer just left them in the cupholder after the frame swap).

Go back, make them fix it.

I had to go back twice to the dealership after the frame replacement. First they forgot to secure the main coolant hose from the radiator into the block, never put the clip back where it belonged and the hose slipped off the block, luckily the dealership is very close to me so I was able to make it home but the engine bay had coolant and steam all over it as soon as I opened the hood. Took pics right then and there, called them right away and they sent someone out to my house to make sure there was nothing wrong. The very next day the check engine light came on, drove right back to the dealership and found out that when they set the bed back in place they had gotten the fuel hose that goes to the tank caught in between and messed it up. Had to order new parts and kept my truck for 2 days until it got fixed, did get a free rental for their screw up.

I've had a pretty pleasant experience with the frame replacement.

I came in for an oil change, they told me there was a hole in the frame of my 2006 regular cab. I was in a bit of shock figuring I'd have to buy a new car or something, but the service people hustled me along to a rental place where I was given a RAM 1500 crew cab. Which was absurd by the way. Have you ever driven a boat made out of lay z boy recliners? I have now. It was a wonderful two months.

Finally the day came though for me to return the RAM1500, and woefully pick up the Tacoma. It's been ok, it's nice being able to park in the city at least. Without the 5-point turn and all. Noticeable more fuel efficient. Even so. If I had a pile of money.
