Lots of people have been saying that. I still need to tidy up the electric fan wires and finish the AC. I also need a new airbox lid.

This is inspiring, I'm considering a V8 swap in a few years down the road.

Today I replaced the 3rd brake light. It is a pain in the .... Since I installed the tundra wiring, I have a unique situation. I have a cargo light and brake light combo. Now since there are no red lens covers with white boxes for the cargo light on a 1st gen, I had to figure out how to utilize the system. I ordered a smoked LED 3rd brake light. The LEDs were all red. I took a spare 3rd brake light and modified it to fit the smoked lens. I then purchased white and red LED bulbs for the system. Here is how it turned out. (1) before pic.DSC00483.jpg (2) After DSC00484.jpg (3) cargo lights are on. These light up when I unlock the doors. I also have a (ECT) below the ash tray that does turn these lights on and off.DSC00486.jpg (4) This is the brake light. It is just the center bulb. I wounder what the odds are that I will get pulled over for a burnt out bulb.DSC00487.jpg(5) This is both systems illuminated. The cargo light lights up the bed real nice. Awesome!DSC00488.jpg d

That worked out well! I like this mod, I can see adding a switch to light the third tail light in the dark. Even with a red lens it would be better than nothing.

I have a double cab and I remember being in the back seat not having a light. When I installed the new smoked 3rd brake light, I had the headliner down. I installed a second dome light at the rear of the cab. It lights up pretty darn good now. Here is the result.

Nice factory look. You just spliced off the original light so they both come on with the dome switch?

I had the wiring done when i swapped in the tundra v8. The Tundra has a TPS system. I installed it into my taco and when I did i ran the wires for the second dome light. I used the original tacoma dome light wires that I added to the end of the tundra dome light. Yes they both come on with opening the door. I also had a 1998 Taco limited king cab with dome map light combo. I switched out the housing and used a dremel to carve out the switch. So I have 2 dome lights and the map lights light up with the door and also can be turned on individually.

Does any one think I need to edit this thread? I am wondering if I should make it more chronological. Maybe put pictures up in order with narration of the swap process. This thread is my first attempt at posting anything public like this and I would like it to flow. Any thoughts?

Well it is the end of the line for me and the 36 Tacundra. I traded for a 06 Tacoma double cab 4x4 4.0 v6 auto with E-locker and 170,000 miles. I kept my wheels and tires and got some cash on top. I text the guy today and he said that the truck felt like a muscle car. He really likes it. I do not have any remorse. It was time to move on. I am putting a 99 tacoma back together with a 4.0 so I am busy. I like that the 06 has more interior room. It also has neat storage behind and below the rear seat. I have looked it over and I think it would be very simple to put a 4.7 in the 06. I want to put a 5.7 in it but who knows If I get another 4.7, I would use it too. hear is the new truck.DSC00551.jpg DSC00561.jpg

So I got to work on my brain child the v8 monster that is no longer mine. It was awesome seeing it again. I got a call that the battery light was on. It needed an alternator. I told him no problem, LOL. As it turned out, it was more of a problem then I remember. I did all that I could not to pull the fans and radiator. I kinda knew I should pull them. It was time wasted. I had to drain the long life coolant, pull the electric fans and pull the radiator just to have the room for the alt to drop out. Once I committed to pulling all that, it went pretty smooth until reinstalling the electric fans. So the next problem was the a/c condenser. It has to be removed to reinstall the fans, the front grill needs to be removed to get to the condenser, the one piece head lights have to be removed with the grill, and you may now see a domino effect that could drive a man mad, LOL.
So to change the alternator I had to pull the radiator, fans, head lights, grill, a/c condenser, skid plates, and power steering pump (not all the way). I remembered how cool it was to see the truck again, but it wasn't really cool again until the job was done and it was leaving. Then it was awesome all over again, LOL. Man the truck has all the torque. It still supersizes me. I have been driving the 4.0 v6 taco and it is all good, but nothing on the 36 tacundra. I did not take any new pictures, I was too busy doing things the hard way and cussing! DSC00007.jpg
