this almost happened to me also. this is a good idea. i switched the key ring to the key fob instead of the actual key. havent had any problems yet. but i may have to steal this from you.

Just keep the fob separate from your other keys. Since you have the door handle sensor dealio, you shouldn’t really need to take the fob out of your pocket.

Also, the fob won’t lay flat when it’s attached to a key ring which makes it bulky in the pocket. Can’t stand that feeling of having a giant bundle of keys in my pocket

Edit: that looks like it may be your full size tailgate key attached on that ring. I keep my full size key in the center console and I use the small key in the remote to unlock my tailgate

I don't think you understand why he had to add the tether. The key has almost separated from the internal key, thus losing the key fob needed to start the truck.

Toyota should have made the key slide out of the fob . Like a knife blade.

Change to a AJT fob cover because you have to REALLY mash that release button to get it to let go, problem solved.

I've never had the issue myself but like someone mentioned, I have the AJT designs shell and you have to want the key out for it to happen.

Wow, never even considering that to happen.. gonna move my ring to the remote and off the key.
A Power lock on the tail gate would have solved this, not needing the key...
