The grille opening is too large for that solid pattern style, with no horizontal features.
    ...And it’s ugly as hell

I read somewhere they had to re-design it to accommodate the new front crash sensors. They should have based the new look off of the SR5 grille and not the chrome cheese grater. Ugly.

Which is likely going to get a refresh as well with TSS being introduced on the Pro unless they somehow made the previous Pro grill work with TSS...

The current Pro Grille has a boxed section in it which I believe is for the TSS

Is it THAT hard to make a decent looking grill? Both of those are horrible lol Who the hell is approving these designs over at Toyota

I was hoping to buy a 2018 and not modify it for at least a few years. This changes things.

Guess I'm in the minority. I like the darker look on the new ones.

When I put my Pro grill on, my 16 Sport chrome grill has been sitting in a box in my spare bedroom. I did not want to sell it because it did not look like people were getting much money for them. I am hoping the 2018 grill makes the 16 chrome grill increase in price now.

That, and lifts. It was part of the reason that I wanted a 17 without tech package.
