3rd Gen Tacoma HAI's Cable Assy. for Front/Rear Camera Anytime, Navigation Override, Smartphone Mirr

Soooo, I pulled a tonered. Measure once, cut twice, I say. Thankfully and purposefully, the override switch is in a hidden spot.

Use the upper hole in the pic. The lower hole will ride on wire bundles under the steering wheel. A 1/4in drill bit is the perfect size.



Routing from the passenger side.



Drivers side. I need to get a stick on zip tie mount for the wire over the heater outlet.





Switch. I fed the wire on the right side of the adjustment lever.

I used a step bit and drilled it in place. Feeding the switch through was tricky. Good idea to remove the steering column cover.

 

I'm a danger mainly to myself. Ha!

 

Finally got around to the front cam, this is awesome!! Just did some testing for now, where are you guys going through the firewall on the passenger side? I’m assuming one of these guys?


Test shots in the garage, socket for reference. This is gonna be a huge help seeing over that hood!

This was actually the second cam I ordered. The first was also from Amazon but the fit was kinda wonky w the Pro grill. This one should pop right into the Toyota “T” logo per their photos, I’ve just got it between the boxy portions of the Pro with washers and it’s been fine.

Here's the camera image from that mounting location. I had to cut the green wire to reverse the mirror function. The object on the ground is where the front of the license plate bracket is, is seems to line up perfect with the red zone. The guide lines work pretty good.

I mounted my first camera, that same camera, here. It lasted almost 24 hours before I drove through high water and destroyed it. You might try putting some silicone in the mounting stud.

 

I took it apart (4 little screws), filled it with silicone, and reassembled with loctite on the screws before installation. We're getting heavy rain this week, I'll see how it does. I also put dielectric grease on the plug connections and taped them up.

 

anyone figure how to wire in a factory camera in the front?

 

Can some one show pictures of your front camera wiring ?
I connected mine but no image comes up.

It should just be power, ground, and and then the yellow video RCA cable to the matching one on the HAI cable with a barrel connector between them.

Here it is what I have

For testing, I am powering camera from the 12v socket at the front panel. It has a 3 amp fuse in it. When power is good it has a green circle illuminated, if not good it would have a red circle (circle is green)

Red wire to red white to black.


Yellow RCA female out from camera goes into yellow RCA male, and power (red) is also connected.



Rear any time camera is working fine. Camera switch works nice


When transitioning to front camera,

Audio, to Source to A/V = screen does not shows image or video!






I don’t understand what could be wrong!

Perhaps you see something g I am not able to figure out

From your images, you are using a cigarette charger from your old charger and cut-out the tip. The cigarette charger may only provides 5 vdc only and your camera may required 12 vdc. If that the case then your Camera never power on at all.
Please use 12 vdc to power on Camera.

 

I also conected the power cable straight to the battery but it did not work ither.
Any thoughts?

 

Do you have any device that you can input video signal such as media player with composite output, home dvd player, surveillance cameras for home...etc. If so then you can input the signal to verify.
As of right now, two scenarios:
Bad Camera or damaged cable...
Upon using other device to input video signal, you can decide which one is bad.
