Tent repair today with Tenacious Tape...

    DSC_0010.jpg

Tenacious Tape has nice gridding pattern to keep your template cuts nice and organized. Was able to hold to the patch area and cut a suitable patch size. TT recommends a 1 inch area around any potential tears/holes, so I kept it a little closer than that...

    Inside patch:

    DSC_0015.jpg

    Outside patch:

    DSC_0013.jpg

Patched it both inside and out. I was impressed with how sticky and thin the patch material was. Package states that it gets stronger "with time..", not sure about that but I will see.

Not sure how these holes manifested, as I did my best to see where the fold pattern put the hole inside the RTT when folded up. Most logical answer is a rub pattern on one of the rain fly mount poles.

Definitely going to keep an eye on the area to see if it is a repeatable issue.

That stuff holds up really well. I've used a similar product several times with good results. The only tip I can offer is to radius/round the corners of the patch or just cut it round if possible, it makes for a stronger repair. We used the same technique when doing repairs on fiberglass kayaks. Circle takes the square...

Cool, thanks for the tips. I thought about that "after" I cut the square ends...naturally.

It is what I would refer to as "less than" ruggedized material on the Skyrise...210D nylon is what Yakima states for their tent material. It is weatherproofed internally, as all the seams are taped. We had zero issues with ours during a recent downpour in the mountains with the rain fly deployed.

So put the tent on for a trip this coming week and noticed the mounting rails are breaking.

Anyone else's @Cascadia Tents do this? It's only been on two trips.

For tent repairs I plan to use the patches that came with my OCP uniforms from the military...

They are weather sealed and you you do is rub them with a hard object to activate the adhesive and they're water proof etc.

Bout 2 weeks out for my tent!

Do you use that foam under the mattress in your tent? My wife bought a bunch of that same stuff for the floor in the workout room and had some left over. Wondering if that would insulate the floor enough to prevent condensation?

Those are actually squares I picked up from HF>>> to make dropped parts easier to find below my workbench. They might insualte, but not sure how they'd do in reducing condensation as they are closed cell?

I actually cut a couple and Gorilla Taped them to the outside floor of my RTT to prevent the inevitable dents that travel creates from pressure of the ladder. That has worked really well.

I just find the mounting system weird, why put this nice piece of equipment on some cheap t-slot rails? It also doesn't make sense to cut your rails like thisScreen Shot 2017-11-20 at 7.57.48 AM.jpg

That edge piece around the tent doesn't allow the track to lay flat on the base of the tent.

I'm just going to make my own mounting rails, but wanted to see if anyone else ran into this.

Pay a ton of money for something, have to make your own mounts. Sounds about right.

you should only have to cut/trim the rails if you have the rails mounted in a certain direction. if you flip them you shouldnt have to trim.

I just cut and trimmed my rails because my rack mounts are on the side of the vehicle not in the center going across the vehicle. The tent wont open fully with the cover still attached unless you trim. its not a big deal, took me 20 min.

How tight are you cranking the mounting bolts to? Looks like over torque and it caused to to push away then cracked on you.
