Watch the video I posted, starting at 1:52. He is saying there are eight screws, and if you pause the video at the proper places you can see about 12 clips.

I see that but why does nobody else seem to install the screws? Looks like 16 clips on the ebay grill.

Sometimes people who make videos in their garages, don't follow factory assembly procedures. :)

I'm not saying you'd be a total idiot to put an eBay grille on a 2018, I'm just saying sometimes there are engineering issues that aren't totally obvious. I'd hate to see someone mess up a safety-related system because they are unaware that they can't just screw in the sensor without aligning it, and I doubt the seller on eBay is going to tell you about that requirement. Your lawyer will not be able to subpoena him from Guangzhou to testify on your behalf.

I don't want to derail the thread any more, so I'll stop posting about this issue. I sincerely hope nobody runs into any trouble.

What trouble could you possibly run into? The safety radar stuff doesn't absolve you of driving and not running into others. It's not an autonomous driving solution.

In my opinion the safety radar is just more crap to break. I have been driving my 2016 for 2 years and haven't hit anything yet thanks to my vision and brake pedal. I think anyone that can use a drill, a screwdriver and tape measure can affix the radar to the cheap grille in its designed location.

It even states in the literature, the system is not guaranteed to work and there are many factors that will override it.

Boy chases ball into the road, too quick for you to react, but maybe not too quick for the vehicle to react automatically. The family of the now-paraplegic child starts asking questions about why the TSS-P system didn't work, sues Toyota because it has deep pockets. Toyota inspects the vehicle, discovers an aftermarket grille and a misaligned sensor. Toyota's lawyer goes out for a steak and a beer, because they are off the hook.

Now you are looking at defending a million dollar suit to pay for 24/7 care for this kid, for as long as he lives. Even if you win, you lose because you will be paying through the nose to defend your actions. Which, to be clear, constitute messing with a safety system for vanity reasons. I would not want to be defending such a suit, because it is not going to go my way.

There are about a million rear-end crashes in the United States every year. All of the offenders would have said they are fantastic drivers. There is a reason these collision mitigation systems are going to be mandatory soon, because they really do work.

    Nah

By this logic you shouldn't even use a different brand of tires than what came from the factory

I understand what you are saying, but every aftermarket tire has federal type approval, pursuant to qual testing. Your defence is that the Department of Transportation and the tire shop told you it was okay to use the KO2s on your Tacoma, due to load and speed ratings, etc.

I just tried this and my offers up to $130 got auto-rejected. $140 shipped is still a smoking deal so whatever.

Good god dude, step outside of your bubble for a second and enjoy life. Your hypothetical situation does not nor will not ever exist. Even on the off chance that your 1 in 10 trillion odds situation did happen, there’s an additional 1 in 10 trillion chance of anyone involved even knowing about it being an aftermarket grill, an additional 1 in 10 trillion chance of them knowing it wasn’t an OEM part, and go ahead and throw in another 1 in 10 trillion chance that a jury/judge would accept such a frivolous claim.

But a lottery ticket with the money you save with the Faux grille.

So does anyone know if these knock-offs fit around the TSS radar on front of the 2018's? The square shaped box I see on these looks positioned too low compared to where the round Toyota emblem is on the 18's (assuming the radar is located behind that emblem on the 18's)....sorry if I missed this.
