I figured Lord knows I've spent enough time there in the Mojave. Hotter than hell but I loved it. It was so different than home I enjoyed being there even if it wasn't for fun purposes. I remember looking up at the sky at night and I'd never seen so many stars. Good pics thanks for bringing back some cool memories.

Nice bed tent solution. always satisfying when you get it just the way you want it. Nice pics of the painted ponies. The ones where I live are unusually tall. Always an exciting encounter.

So along with a good 3" cold weather pad, and a -20c mummy bag, ill keep a down comforter along side incase its needed, but rarely use it. Something I've been doing for years is boiling a pot of water and filling a Nalgene with it to tuck into the bag just before I crawl into bed, usually eat something hearty and hot too, and with the left over boiled water ill try and get some hot tea in me too. The boiled water in the Nalgene tends to fire up the heat in the bag pretty good! Il also boil a bit extra after the morning coffee pot and use it in the Nalgene to keep the hands moving and ill tuck it under the sweater as I drink the first cup of the morning.

22 - thanks for your post and write up. I think I've seen the same fast frame video that coylifut posted of the bed tent too.

Might it be possible for you to post the measurements and notes you took when creating your bed tent ?

This is an innovative solution for a long-standing problem for those with a short bed and long legs !

Most of Oregon looks like Nevada and Idaho. Prime country for wild horses. Nevada has about 35,000 wild burros. I guess if those burros tasted good, there would be a lot less of them. Back to camping.

It unfortunate that americans have an aversion to horse meat.

Agreed, given their diet I can't imagine it would taste much different from any other critter.

    Horse steaks sound delicious

Cheapy Walmart one. It works well in the summer, not so much when its cold out. One of the seams split on it.

    Wool blanket all day.

I ordered one of these to try out - https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/77019?feat=511644-GN3&page=pathfinder-sleeping-pad&csp=s - because I had a gift card left over from last Christmas I was probably never going to use.

I wanna get a piece of foam to make a pad too

That is amazing craftsmanship on the bed tent extension. I also saw the youtube video that you referenced. I did the measurements and took them to a local mom and pop fabric/upholstery shop. In a canvas type material, they wanted over $300. Props to you and the wife for making it happen. Pretty sure that ya'll saved at least $200
Yeah. I did not end up doing that project. Yikes!

so much so that most states outlaw the slaughter of horses for meat. AFAIK, there is not currently any horse meat slaughter houses in business in the US. I have a friend that raced in Belgium on a Flemish cycling team that fed the team horse meat. The team told him that horses are fast and eating it will make you fast. He countered with "then why don't you feed me a chetah" and refused to eat the horse meat.
